ARB Recovery Point Installed

Install was slightly pretty easy. Two of the nuts are a little hard to get started but the finished product looks great and no more worries about using the tow hook to recover my truck....or someone else’s. Seriously, this thing probably weighs 20 lbs.

Hmm, are you able to attach a shackle with the stock bumper? Presume you have to thread up with it.

The only drawback i have with these is that the corners are sharp, so softshackles may/can be cut. Love mine though. Hauled my butt and others out if a few jams.

 

So use a hard shackle? Seems to be plenty of room for one.

I do, also use soft shackles which I prefer. When one fails they do a heck of a lot less damage to people/equipment.

Have had shackles break and take off(was a shackle from work and we were oulling out compnie trucks from the mud, must bave developed a small crack and boom Right through the tailgate and dented the headache rack. Used soft ahackles and shredded a few and they tend to just dent metal panels.

 

I’ve never seen a quality USA made shackle break. I have seen cheap foreign made ones break. Like tires and toilet paper, you get what you pay for with shackles...

 

Sounds like it fixes the taco lean too. 20lbs!!

Which brand softies do you use?

It looks like pretty much all the recovery points on the aftermarket bumpers have sharp edges just like the arb, not sure how you could avoid using a shackle of some sort to connect that soft one.

 

Hey Flash, I'll be installing my ARB mount soon too. I'm glad it was't too difficult. I believe that the full-color instruction page (not the black and white installation instructions) that came with my mount say that mounting a D ring in the way you've demonstrated is incorrect. The instructions show that the "D" portion of the ring should face the mount and the rope should be attached to the pin. Could you verify that the D ring fits in that manner on the front bumper? I'm curious to see if it fits that way using the stock bumper because that's what I'll be using. Thanks!

 

I just weighed mine on my bathroom scale. Without hardware, the ARB mount itself weighs 17.6 lbs.

Do you guys have any tips for installing this thing? So far I know that it's easier with the tire removed and that a small piece of the fender liner will need to be trimmed. I'm mostly concerned with boring out the hole in the frame for the supplied ARB bolt and that weird "nut-on-a-stick" contraption. I'm waiting for my sliders to come in before installing it. I'll also be using an RCI front skid plate, which i don't think will be an issue.

 

You’ve got to trim a little plastic rectangle off the inner liner...like 2x3. Boring the hole is easy with a step drill.

 

I was trained to use it as displayed as the pin is the strongest point in the shackle. I found a pic on the internet which shows the correct mount bb

 

After a week and a half 4wp finally shipped my ARB recovery mount. Should be here sometime next week, will get it installed on the weekend. If you have time, could you please post a pic of it from the bottom.

I've used soft shackles no problem on it . Just paid the $5 from an industrial supplier for that sleeving used to protect straps .
