Hey guys. I have an 09 tacoma I plan on putting a 3 inch lift on. Wondering what size tire suggestions you guys have? Was looking at either 32.6 or 33s. Suggestions or constructive criticism welcomed. Thanks !

And you’ll most likely have to get your cab mount chopped.

If you want to have little or no trimming but like wider tires, easiest is to go with the Nitto Trail Grappler 285/70R16s. These are the only tire made in this size, which is the biggest downside to these. You get 31.8" height with the 11.5" width when you go with the 70 series.

If you want the best looks with a 3 inch lift, any 285/75R16 will work, just choose the one you like best. A lot of tire options for this size (32.8"x11.5") You will have to do a fair bit of trimming and possibly a cab mount chop to fit the 75 series though.

Either of these sizes will still rub if your wheels are too low of an offset. Try to stay close to 0 offset and an 8 or 9 inch wide wheel if you want the easiest fitment.

Here's mine with just a front level and the Nitto 285/70s for reference. My wheels are a -12 offset 16x8, so I had a bit of trimming.90255760.jpg

Also, what exactly is a cab mount chop? I’m looking at a set of 285/65r18. Would those need a cab mount chop after a 3in lift? And do most shops offer cab mount chops or would it have to be somewhere special ?

A cab mount chop is where the body mount is they chop it off and move it make a little so don’t rub on the front inside lower fender, there’s a small steel piece that will rub tires. Where do you live I can almost bet there’s a member who does these in your area. I recommend ordering the plates from BAMF cause they ship almost right away. If you go 285 and off-road you most certainly will rub a bit back there.

It’s not actually moving the cab mount. It’s chopping off the front side of it - well forward of the actual cab mount bolt - then welding reinforcing steel back in, but leaving space to the rear of the front wheel.
