I just put arb lockers front and rear in my 2017 Sport. It can be done without worry, all you need is a competent installer. And to clarify some misinformation in here: you cannot take the 3rd member out of an offroad model and put it in your differential. The offroad model has an 8.75" ring gear and larger carrier. The Sport model has an 8" ring gear and the differential housing is different to accommodate those changes. With the air lockers all you have to do is run a switches for the compressor and the locker. Gar easier and less labor intensive than your plan. However where there's a will there's a way. For example I paid 450 per axle for the locker install plus the cost of the lockers. I was doing gears so I had the lockers installed while they were in there. If it were me I'd go with an arb for ease of hassle and knowing you'll have one of the best lockers available

Double kung fu edit! The diff sizes are as follows

if the truck gets you to your destination now as is, not worth the effort if your a part time rock climber, unless you have a lot of money and time to use up

The reason for this is my truck didn't have the balls to get over some rocks where I was and I hate having a jeep talk smack to me I feel if I had the lockers at least on the rear I'd have made the climb

they also have the smaller ring and pinion in the sport too dont they? I would recommend an ARB, ECTED, or Harrop.. the elctronic ones area simple 12v source wire that acts on a solenoid to lock the rear spiders together.. most act as an open locker, some a limited slip..

You trying to make a 6x6 truck? How many lockers are you trying to get for the rear?

Don't feel bad. OEM Jeeps are better designed than the OEM Taco when it comes to Rock Crawling. The OEM Jeep also has a front locker.

TRD off-road has the smaller rear end. Sport has the 8.4”.

OP you’re better off with an ARB if you want a locker. Better locker and less headaches to try and make it work with the computer system.
