    Hi everyone,

I’m a new owner of a 2018 TRD Sport. I’ve been taking full advantage of this site to help me build up my truck for camping/climbing/hiking/skiing, and I’d like to start by thanking everyone for all the information and ideas.

I have an ARE cap with factory roof rack tracks. I was thinking about getting an ARB awning, and was hoping to just connect it to the cap with some L brackets, on only one of the rack tracks. Every example I’ve been able to find of mounting an awning has been on a roof rack, but I don’t have a particular need for one, so was wondering if it is necessary. My concern would be that there wouldn’t be enough stability using only one track, but I’m not sure. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience or opinions with this.

    Thank you for your help!

If your looking to drill holes into your fiberglass cap to mount an awning i would say its a bad idea. I mounted L brackets to a roof rack to mount my foxwing awning

No, I don’t want to drill into my cap. My wife would kill me....

I meant attaching it to the roof rack tracks directly, without the need for a roof rack. Something like what is pictured below, if you can make any sense of my drawing

Interesting, im sure you could figure a way to mount a bracket in there, however im not sure what kind of pressure the track could stand... i think with a roofrack a couple hundred pounds could be mounted.
Im sure the track can hold an awning

That’s what I was thinking. I’m surprised I haven’t been able to find anyone who’s tried it. Oh well.
