I noticed some rust at the bottom of my 2017 TRD OR. Is there a way to clean and protect the frame?

No sticky goat sweat undercoating that ends up collecting roadkill chunks and road grime here. This is 3 winters in a salt state.

1.5 cans. I applied that last year, I just hose it down after every storm/off road adventure. I took pic that just before re application last week maybe.

You could get away with one can but I just douche the shit out of it

My goal was to hit the entire frame and suspension. I tried my best- so frame rails inside and out, under the bed braces, tranny and engine braces, leaf springs, rear axle, front suspension, drive shafts and u joints and transfer case/supports. My ACTUAL coverage may be sketchy due to ADD, but I feel like I got most of it. I just kept spraying until I got sick of spraying, the cans last a long time.

I originally used this on fabrication projects, it keeps my tubes rust free and they say you can weld through it, which I have, and I haven’t noticed any defects, though I never got those components x Ray’ed so who knows. The point is, I prefer to keep all my projects raw, I like the HAZ colors and raw fab look, and mavcoat works the best at THAT, so it works just as well at undercoating.

It’s all going to be superficial rust. IMO you could just wash it and coat over it after it dries. I would.

I do. My understanding is that it doesn’t harm anything/is inert. I’ve tried to get more details in the composition, sds and all that, but I haven’t had a lot of luck or spent enough real time digging up what it is, I just end up at proprietary trade blends. I assume it’s a by product like fluid film, except from petro not goats.

Clean your underside really well with a hose and let dry. Spray down the entire underside with Mavcoat, Fluid Film, Krown, etc. Best to do this in the spring and in the fall to help prevent as much rust as possible.

Surface rust is inevitable if your in the salt belt. In a few years your going to have to sand and touch up spots with some black paint. This is normal maintenance in the White North.

I think its possible now that these wax based products are so readily available. My 1st gen was a constant struggle keeping up with Chassis Saver and black Rustoleum spray paint and it still was a mess.

Krown'd my truck as soon as I got it and plan to pay the shop $150 annually in the fall. After one winter now I can see the spots that need touching up with a can more often (rear wheel suspension and frame, rear axle, and leaf springs, front suspension).
The Rust Dragon will be kept at bay on this new third gen.
