Stock sound system is pretty decent but from someone that enjoys long drives and loud music.. is it worth the $1300 and Saturday spent installing?

    Opinions..

I'm going to say no. But for the following reason...

    Cons...
    1. You will get better sound but for the price it doesn't come with an amp.
    2. You will get better sound if you get an aftermarket head unit also.
    3. Plenty of speaker options for cheaper cost. (Kicker, Polk, Rockford fosgate). They are also not component speakers
    4. You dont need to replace the rear speakers because you won't ever hear them in a double cab.
    5. Also it looks like the sub enclosure requires you to modify/cut up your plastic bins instead of just removing it.
    6. Still need a wiring kit
    Pros...
    1. Plug and play
This is all based of your preference of it being "loud", or what is considered an SPL system. Basically meaning a loud system. Now if you want SQL (sound quality) then you can drain your wallet on high quality speakers and amps such as hybrid audio and arc audio.

Sub and sub amp are something you dont have to get the best of the best and you will still get good bass. I spent half the amount on 2 subs and an amp as I did for my front speakers and amp.

Shop around on sonicelectronix.com. I think Ebay has sub enclosures for a decent price.

OEM+ audio is plug and play as well.

I don’t know what the Tacomabeast setup is offering, I just thought id throw that out.

I mean its kinda the same deal, i do like their amps! However i have also heard bad things about them not responding to people's requests and taking a while to get things out the door. However that was a while back and things may have changed.

It really sounds like you are wanting to get a specific "kit" for the truck, so if so then i would say that Tacoma Beast and Taco Tunes are good choices for simplicity. The plug and play is almost worth it if you are not a capable installer. Meaning cutting, crimping, soldering wires, etc. TacomaBeast uses OEM audio, and Taco Tunes likes to use Image Dynamics. Both seem to be decent brands...

If you would like to piece together a system then that is where you will have to figure out if you want to go SQL (can get expensive quick) or SPL (can be done cheaper). If this is something that interests you can probably piece together something that will be just as good as OEM or Taco tunes for around the same price probably.

If tacomabeast sells oem audio + then you were mistaken about your original con list. Oem audio plus is a plug and play system with an amp and a sub/enclosure that fit seamlessly into stock locations with zero mods.

The option i saw for $1,299 showed an option for an + amp + dual subwoofer options at an additional cost. I see now that it is for a dedicated amp for the sub.

I think the concept and execution is great. The price for what you’re realistically getting is quite a bit high in my opinion.

I believe Crutchfield provides wire harness builds at checkout for some products & WAY cheaper.

+1. You can do much better for the money if you can put in a bit more effort.
