Finally got unit installed. Local shop did it for $150, saved my sanity. The only thing not in the crutchfield package was the parking bypass circuit. The shop had 1 and installed it, otherwise while driving no input for navigation or bluetooth setting could be done unless parking brake was applied.

As far as looks go, a tiny bit underwhelmed. Although screen size is the same as OEM, it looks smaller bc the dash kit is not gloss. I know it's an optical illusion and every after market unit will look like this (except for the halo f309 units).

Disappointed in myself for not checking phone compatibility with wireless android auto (apparently only available for pixel and nexus phones). But wired works fine. I am happy that I bought a unit that is not reliant on android auto for navigation or music integration. Don't think I'll be using android auto that much due to hassle of connecting cord. Screen mirroring works great if I feel a need for it.

Biggest positive was the sound improvement. Holy shit, i was floored when i turned it on. Was not expecting that much improvement in sound. I already had the kicker speaker/Subaru tweeter update done and was a little underwhelmed with setup on oem. But now it sounds incredible. Before the HU swap I was having some vibration issues on the driver door panel. I added noico sound deadening sheets and roadkill foam ring kit and vibration improved but was still there with louder songs. Now vibration is completely gone, bass sounds great (although a small stealth box may be in my future).

Overall happy with the purchase, especially since I was lucky enough to get on super sale $699. I'm sure I could've gotten similar results with a cheaper unit, but sale price almost negates that. Thanks to everybody posting their equipment and product reviews. Anyways, I'm going to go listen to some music.

I installed the AVIC-W8400NEX yesterday now that the weather is cooperating, wiring the maestro was super easy since I already did the kicker speaker upgrade and have a kicker key amp already installed. It is a huge improvement over the stock HU. The only challenge was getting all the wires stuffed back under the unit.

$25 bucks for Crutchfield to wire up the harness pre shipping.... will this make install much easier for me? More of a plug and play--- Might do it all from Crutchfield

It will. Be aware that they use crimped connections.

That service makes it truly plug and play.

I used non insulated butt splices and then double shrunk wrapped the splices during lunch at work in one day. It was pretty easy as the Crutchfield instructions are pretty clear and I had access to everything I needed to do it. You need to decide if you have the skill and patience to do it yourself in an hour or if it is worth $25 just to plug everything together.

Do you know how to solder? If not, I learned on youtube, and was overseen by my brother in law the first time I did an install. Just make sure you get shrink wrap and all that too. Other than that, just match the wires. Oh, and don't forget the brake bypass.

Spoke with tunes n tint in Amarillo about an install and they said they dont mess with the maestro stuff because it doesn't communicate well and they dont want unhappy customers. They mentioned metra, axxess or pac parts that they would install. Maybe I should just learn to be content with my oem headunit

I have had ZERO problems with the Maestro RR unit. I don't know about others but that has been my experience.

Same here, although I have a different head unit. There are quirks (that I have been documenting in the DMX905S thread I started), but other than that, no real issues

any chance there is a good install video some where or more documented install notes to walk a noobie through all this...from dash piece removal to everything else.

Question.... the gps and speed limit display on my dash cluster is gone after install. everything else seems to be working perfect with my 8400 install-

Is there a way to get weather to show up on the pioneer headunit? I miss my weather display that was on the entune but that possibly is the only thing I miss

You loose those functions in the instrument panel. As far as weather, I would not know. Maybe CarPlay has a weather app you can you?

Just ask Siri what the weather is going to be. Gaining so much more with an 8400 and you miss the weather display...lol

Is that a programming feature you have to check “on” to work? Can’t remember on the rr. Don’t remember what default is
