Anyone rocking the 20 gallon 145psi or 21 gallon 125psi air compressors? Trying to figure out which one to go with. The 21 gallon is 10$ cheaper. $159 and $169.

Any feedback on these. Plan on usin. Then to air tires and occasionally use an impact or ratchet for suspension, wheel/tire related jobs.

Are either of those enough for automotive air tools?

I’d go with capacity over PSI.

I bought a nail gun for a project the wife wanted done. She changed her mind on the project and I no longer needed the nail gun but being a man I kept it anyway. 16 months later I finally need it, get it out of the box, put the air fitting on, a little oil in it, load some nails, and it shot 3 nails out of it before it quit working. Called my local HF and they wouldn't exchange or refund it.

I know it's my fault for not testing the nail gun when I bought it.

You should call higher. I doubt they'd refund your money, but they should replace it.

Although on second thought, I'm not sure if the lifetime is on everything..............probably not :( . Sorry about your nail gun.

Good news is they're so insanely cheap, that if you ever need to drive another 3 nails................. :p

20 gallons will work fine. 60+ and youd never have to worry.

need to compare the cfm of the impact to the cfm of the compressor

    Air flow required

Compressors are measured in two main ways, PSI (pounds per square inch) and deliverable CFM (cubic feet per minute). These measurements determine the effectiveness of the air compressor in different situations. When selecting a compressor you need to identify the PSI and CFM requirements of your air tools. If you will only be using one tool at a time use the tool with the highest PSI and CFM requirement. If you intend to run multiple tools at the same time you will need to total the CFM's required by each tool.

The key is to choose an air compressor that exceeds the PSI and CFM airflow requirements of your highest rated air tool. That way you're sure to not be under-powered. The best results are obtained when you purchase a compressor with 1.25 to 1.5 times more CFM airflow at the recommended PSI than your air tool(s) require. This method will ensure the performance of your air tool(s) will be maintained without over working the compressor and losing efficiency.

    Examples
Single tool use: If a 1/2" impact wrench requires 5.0 CFM @ 90 PSI, then the compressor should deliver between 6.25 - 7.5 CFM @ 90 PSI.

Multiple tool use: If you plan to run more than one tool at the same time, you must add the CFM of each tool together to determine your needs. If your compressor needed to power a Cut Off Tool (4 CFM @ 90 PSI) and a High Speed Grinder (4 CFM @ 90 PSI) you should look for a compressor that can deliver 10 - 12 CFM @ 90 PSI or higher.

I was asking for both reasons.. I don’t think they’ll deliver enough air, and I also don’t think that capacity is enough unless it’s literally for an impact to bust lug nuts off with.

If he ever wanted more tools, like a die grinder.. not going to work. Not enough air, not enough capacity unless you like motors that run nonstop and overheat. The small compressors aren’t bad, but those motors and pumps get overworked and may not fit in future plans.

This can happen to any air tool if it's not oiled frequently. I had a harbor freight nail gun for almost 10 years. It crapped out after being stored in my shed for a year with no use.....

I bought this model When the tank on my Sanborn rusted through. The HF pump will not keep up with grinders drills or sandblaster by itself. I Tee'd my sanborn 2 stage pump from the leaky tank into the HF tank and quit using the HF pump unless I need high volume. The HF unit is loud as hell, sounds like it's operating at like 4000rpm and about to explode. You can't even buy a new air tank for the price of the whole HF unit, so I'm not unhappy about the purchase

So I made a little stop tonight....

    Resized_20190326_204622.jpg

Had the boy with me, so all except the 1/2" drive sockets, the oil filter pliers and the finger ratchets were 30% off. Both 1/2" drive socket sets were 20% off, and naturally the crap ass tester and the tape measure were free. Full price around $90...out the door for right at $64. I realize we're not saving millions here, but it becomes like a mission lol...."I will not pay full price...I will not pay full price....I will not pay full price......"

30% off is in store only, up to 5 items $10 each or less. My dumb ass tried to use it online and got "invalid coupon code"...then I read it.

    Anyhow, happy hunting folks.

This link has been posted in this thread many times but I am posting it again just to keep it handy. I used the inside track coupons for an order today, even though I'm not an inside track member. They accepted the coupons anyway!

I was wondering about that. Did you use them in the store or online?

I've thought about it, but didn't know if they asked for a member number (if there is such a thing) or if they could see when you gave em your number that you're not a member, etc....

$5 is an amazing deal for those, but that link says they retail for over $100 which is absurd. Normal retail is $25
