Yeah, your guy up there was talking “Israelites”, and never mentioned 22lr....he mentioned .22.....

    .22 and .22lr regardless you can’t compare to .223 or .556

I only said something about .22 and Israelis using them because someone mentioned they were being used for assassinations. Not sure how true that is, but I seen they stopped using the .22 round back in the early to mid 70’s

Before you teach her to shoot... how’s your married life? When’s the last time you had an argument?

HaHa, you gotta be kidding, put one or two of these squirrel loads into the perps cranium and if he/they don't go down they will do some pretty funny things standing up!!!! the .22 is the choice of many.

I agree .22lr has killed plenty of people. And big tough wild animals too. I don't think he has much practical experience with firearms.

Best advice I have is take her to a range where you can rent a bunch of different handguns. Have her shoot a bunch of them, regardless of make or caliber. Whichever one she is holding when she looks at you and says, “I like this one” is the one. You may be surprised at what it is. Comforability is really key when it comes to first gun ownership.

I would suggest buying a ruger 10-22. Very easy to shoot and a good way to learn fundamentals of shooting. If worried about shooting a semi automatic simply load one in the magazine. That’s what I did when I took my girlfriend the first time. For the “home defense” people I can put ten rounds of .22LR in a tighter group faster than I can with anything else. But I understand the macho part about it being too small but at 10 yards is it really?

Agreed and Agreed, ask any good ER Dr. and they will tell you a .22 is one of the worst rounds you can be shot with.

I’d love to hear this one. Only thing I can think of is because it won’t fully penetrate, that it’s a bitch for them to get in there and remove the bullet and/or any fragments?

Exactly, and the infection healing process is long. I had a coworker that was gut shot by his girlfriends husband o_O. He had been shot 3 times in his life and told me the .22 was the worst to recover from.
An ER Dr. will tell you that a .22 will break up and go everywhere inside you. Unlike a larger jacketed round that might stay together.

    ^^ this.
Bigger bullets = bigger fragments = easier to find and remove

Yea I could see a bunch of small fragments being everywhere since most rounds are unjacketed, especially if bone was hit or something harder. Not something I would ever want to deal with. But atleast the survival rate is pretty high.

Took my wife for the first time. All i took was the 223 and 9mm. Ive got some bigger ones but i didnt want to scare her off. She put about 250 rounds of the 223, and 50 in the 9. She enjoyed the 223 more because less kick. start small and move up.

223 is very soft shooting but I find it goddamn loud! The muzzle flash and boom from my AR-15 would put off a new shooter. Out of a longer barrelled bolt action it might be much quieter.

Start with a .22, let her get used to it[low recoil/cheap to shoot] then move up if SHE is comfortable, actually teach her how to shoot ie GUN SAFETY!!, grip, stance, sight alignment, sight picture, trigger control, breathing, BRASS- breath, release, aim, squeeze, spot [USMC,78-81]. Don't pressure her to shoot anything bigger the first time out. Make it a positive experience. I have a couple of guns:D:thumbsup: and like taking people out who have never shot before. I have a good variety of "toy's" that I can give them a wide range of what it's like. I always tell people " try everything once [except stuff like the .44mag/.357mag/12g etc, unless THEY want to try]. And then shoot what you like or are comfortable with" Make it fun, shoot a .22 pistol or rifle [I have 10 .22's, rifles and pistols] and have a good time or give her a .45 acp or .44 mag even a 9mm,shoot a couple of rounds and scare the crap out of her and she won't want to go out again..........The biggest gun I have shot is in the pic....yes it is a gun[mortar/howitzer/gun-high velocity, flat trajectory] ,a M-107 175mm Gun, 20+ mile range................Semper Fi, Mac

    I'm late to this thread...

While i agree with the semi-auto idea, if you do decide to use a semi-auto, only load one round at a time. This practice will not only allow for practice loading the firearm, it will keep everyone safe from non-intentional mis-handling of the firearm.
