Does the 2019 Tacoma off-road come with navigation? And if it does is it integrated, or does it have to go through your phone ? I’m trying to look it up online and it looks like you have to get the premium package with the leather ?

All 2019 off-roads have navigation integrated into the headunit.

It does not use cell phone data. I have found the integrated navigation very useful compared to the navigation app on the lower model headunits.

Does anyone know how to update the Nav in 2016 Taco without going to the dealer?

Use Google Maps, and pre-load any areas without cell coverage on your ipad. You won't be sorry.

GPS navigation works off road, but mine doesn't have very good off road maps. It has most forrest service roads but nothing smaller than that. I'd recommend supplementing it Gaia GPS software running with a pad or phone.

It has it, but if you've ever used google maps, you'll be disappointed. I installed the anytime rear camera mod and never take the camera off the screen, and have my phone mounted on the dash with android auto.

It does have cow paths on it though, this was on the map in eastern Oregon. There were even some barbed wire cowboy gates crossing it. It’s fun to find these designated “county routes”, but luckily I wasn’t a family with kids driving a Prius!

I just realized OP was probably asking if the "Off Road" Tacoma comes with navigation, not if the Tacoma comes with "off road navigation".

The Off Road Tacoma should come with off road navigation.

Yes I wasn’t sure because my mothers RAV4 when she bought it came with navigation , but after she bought it they told her that she has to use cell phone data

My wife’s 2019 RAV4 came with that disappointment too.

So the head unit does “use” a bit of cell phone data to update the weather app and traffic functions on the Nav. It’s minimal but you give it permission to connect its HD functions or something like that via your data.

I wonder if there’s a way to use offline maps for it... hopefully, someone will hack that one day.

The HD data is actually HD Radio, it can get traffic and weather info without using cell data. Of course you have to be in an HD radio coverage area that supports it, but I disconnected my phone and deleted the entune app after they got rid of pandora and can still get weather and traffic info.

Unless it's a totally new and vastly improved implementation, the navigation sucks. I used it a couple times in my '17 and never found it to be at all useful. Way too much effort to find something before you can even start the navigation. Much easier to just use my phone. Then the route it picks isn't always the best and it's hard to get it to pick a different one. It's also slow to reroute. If you go a different route it will try to get you back on the original one. I like that my phone just accepts my choice and reroutes. It's ETA estimates are not very good. Google tends to be pretty spot on for me and updates nearly instantly for changing traffic. Even though the in-car nav is supposed to have traffic data it seemed wrong the few times I used it or told me there was construction ahead but there wasn't.

    TLDR: Toyota nav sucks.
