Note - A $5 beach driving pass will have to be purchased for each day or you can spend $25 for the annual one.

Here are a few places a Beach Pass can be purchased: (the two places at the bottom of the list are open on the weekends)
    1375C31E-D434-4D4E-BD2B-1BDE6CEDCF13.jpg

Camp on the white sand beach of Amelia Island and drift off to sleep to the sound of waves crashing on the shore, then awake to a spectacular sunrise over the mighty Atlantic.

Amelia Island is a small island near Fernandina Beach, Florida, and is one of the few places left where you can camp right on the beach for free. Although, if you wish to drive your car on the beach during peak season in the summer or a holiday weekend, you will have to purchase a permit for $5 from ithe Flash Foods down the road. But if you're here during the regular season, just check in with one of the sheriffs patrolling the beach and they'll usually let you camp without a permit. If you're tent camping, you can park in the parking lot for free, then just make the short walk over the dunes to the beach and pick a spot.

There are other access points to drive onto the beach, but camping near Peter's Point is the most convenient because it has toilets, showers and covered picnic areas. Fires are allowed on the beach and pets are welcome as long as they are leashed.

This vast beach is the perfect location for group camping, so invite all your friends, load up the cooler, create a playlist and get ready for an incredible weekend. Like water sports? You can swim, kayak, windsurf, paddle board, whatever floats your boat. Or, if you're more of a landlubber, bring a football or set up a makeshift volleyball net and unleash your competitive side.

When the sun begins to set, light up the campfire and crack open a brew. But don't stay up too late, because you're not going to want to miss the spectacular sunrise over the Atlantic.

While Peter's Point is a very peaceful spot for camping, be prepared for cars to occasionally drive past your site. Word of advice: keep the tide in mind when setting up camp. Don't be fooled by the low tide and pitch your tent near the water - waking up to a flooded tent can really put a damper on your day.

Let’s get this going. Please posts your thoughts, interests, places to eat, things to do, things you can add to the excitement.

This is a trip that you can join in as long as you like. I will be there throughout the entirety of the trip.

I am going to look at options for a possible house as well.

I may be renting an AirB&B in conjunction with camping on the beach, for a couple days, we could use when needed or just to have an option.

Went down to the island to do some looking around at the area and our camping spot.

Beach driving permits sell out quick for the weekends apparently. Tried calling around to all the places open on the weekends that sell them and they were sold out till Monday, this included the annual pass as well. Now I was able to drive onto the beach without the pass since it isn’t like there are police checking passes as you enter the sand and I found out there were a number of people who didn’t have the passes either. Cops drove by regularly but none will stop and ask to see you pass randomly.

Alcohol is not allowed on the beach. HOWEVER, after talking to the locals they said as long as you aren’t drinking it out of a can / bottle in plain view and aren’t acting like a drunk idiot and being loud the cops that patrol the beach will not even look at you.

4WD is highly recommended but not required. Sometimes the driver skill makes all the difference. The sand is not packed down and we had to pull two vehicles out just in the short time I was on the beach today.

Camp fires will not be allowed in June due to sea turtle nesting. I will find out if digging a fire pit is an exemption to that rule or not.

The nearby town of Yulee has many stores and places to eat if camp food isn’t your thing. I saw a Walmart so groceries or other beach items can be purchased there for those who need them.

If there are others questions about the area feel free to message me and I’ll look into it.

So this trip is happening on from 8-15th.

My family and I decided to rent an AirB&B that will be directly behind where we can camp on Peter’s Point.

This will enable the group a place to come in out of the sun, take a break, make some frozen drinks and hit the pool.

FYI - the rooms have been spoken for, but again this is a place we can use while we are there during the day and before people go to sleep.

Come out for the week, or a few days.

Went down there again this weekend and bought my Annual Beach permit. Went out on the beach and saw some dude in the water get pulled out by a rip tide. Luckily the guy managed to break free of it and found a sand bar to stand on till the coastal rescue guys could get to him.

    Awesome, Thanks for the add

I will be down there during that time June 8-15 (maybe longer if I camp), we are renting a house on the North side of the island N. Fletcher. I go down here 3-4 times a year, some family trips some guy trips. My wife has conferences most of the days so I will be hitting the water for at least a little while each day. I have a 16' flats skiff that I use on the ICW side and know the area pretty good. If anyone is interested in going let me know, I usually end up fishing by myself, kids and wife like the beach.

I have a few places you will want to check out

Salt Life Restaurant-On N. Fletcher, this place is new. I went with some friends a couple weeks ago....I know I was thinking the same thing...I was shocked!! Food was awesome and not too pricey...Think I got a lobster pasta dish...mmm. It gets super busy so hit it early or during the week.

29 South- This is down by the City Marina, If you like Shrimp and Gritz this is the best I have ever had...no joke. They are only open on certain days and I think just for lunch...it's a must try.

Brett's- In the City Marina- Supper Club atmosphere with amazing food....it will cost you...wouldn't advise showing up in a wife beater and flip flops...lol

Pepper's- Downtown- If you like Mexican...I do..This place is really good Mexican...Great Margaritas..not too pricey...I eat here almost every trip

    Others to check out:

    Cafe Karibo
    Crab Trap
    Salty Pelican

These are more your common touristy deep fried seafood venues

Also lots of watering holes downtown all within walking distance...Green Turtle is one of my favs. usually have live music

Oh i'm always down for some fishing. I might see about bringing down my boat as well if we are wanting an open water fishing option. its a 19ft Key West and i know there is a Marina close by that lets you dock there for like $25 a day.

City Marina is Closed for repairs due to Matthew and Irma, it had still been open up until last fall. Although last fall you had better hoped you didn't need to get out of the water at low tide...ask me How I know...lol.
