Harry: My wife's family is from Detroit and we visit then twice a year. Detroit is in the process of rebuilding and has been for the last 10 years or so. I have a nephew, he lives in Warrendale, who is very active both politically and socially with the rebuilding effort. Great things are happening now all over the city. Historic preservation is at an all time high, the center city area has modernized and provides first class entertainment and shopping. I hope you take the time to visit a Ford plant, the F150 plant in Rouge, is a nice half dat trip. The Ford museum and Greenfield are a whole day trip in themselves.

Please go with an open mind. I like you thought the same way 22 years ago and was surprised how nice Detroit and the state of Michigan really is for a tourist or a local.

Morning everyone, haven’t stopped by in awhile, hope everyone is doing well. I am originally from the Motor City, and yes it has a bad reputation. That being said, it has been getting much better in the last 10 years. The downtown center has seen a lot of improvements and is a cool place to visit. Ther are some real bad spots to this day and are easily avoided. I hope you’re trip goes well.

    Morning all:
Just read an article that I find interesting. A gentleman who worked for the govt., who is a bachelor, and who has a limited time to live, wants to marry a friend so she, as his wife, can get all of the benefits that he worked for all his life as a gift to her.
The one part specifically mentioned that his estate would lose all the money that the govt. contributed to his pension upon his death, and only the part that he contributed would remain. I just heard about a similar situation where the wife was only entitled to the funds contributed by her husband, and not the portion contributed by the employer, (in this case a school district), and am wondering if that same thing would apply in his case.
This is beyond my pay grade :), but I have seen more than a few examples where people don't fully understand the full scope of situations, don't know if this is one of them. If it was my situation I would be looking into it from every angle and be 100% clear about anything involved.

Carl, you are a wise man.

As I understand it, a veterans spouse must have been married 10 years to get their VA benefits.

I believe in this case they mentioned 9 months for her to be able to claim benefits as his wife.

    Good morning Susan, gang,
Raining pretty good, heard some thunder a couple times last few minutes. Took a second rumble that was closer for me to realize what the noise was, thought a snow plow had gone by on the road a few hundred yards away. Will check when there is some light to see how much the creek has come up, was up the last day again. If there is snow on the ground and it rains moderately or more, the creek will flood overnight.
Hey Ken, won a rare Coleman single burner stove dated 1929 the other day.

Wish the rest of us when we were working :) could be right once in awhile like Weatherpeople. Been raining pretty good still, let up a little for a bit, was only supposed to get under an inch last night, dogs water bowl was almost full this morning. Checked the crick after I got home from getting groceries and it came up enough to wash away twigs that had accumulated from a few weeks ago that I had pushed a little to get them away from trees along the bank. Snow hasn't disappeared much from the rain that the sun the last week hasn't melted.
Dang packages from Canada, USPS reroutes stuff or put them on the wrong truck, don't know. A kerosene lamp from up north was supposed to be here Monday, going the rounds between San Francisco and Sacramento which aren't too far apart.

I am waiting on a package from Sweden. It went through USA customs very quickly. I was surprised. German items sit in US customs for many days.

I've had some UK stoves arrive faster than from here in the USA. Last couple now have gone round and round in Sac and San Fran. This one is from Canada, I've had stove parts come from Washington get diverted for a couple days.

Gun owners in Kalifornia may need to move to two counties in Nevada which have declared they are sanctuary counties for gun owners, against the new governor there who wants to enact more gun control per the same radio I listen to part of the day. Following some cities in Kalifornia who have declared themselves as sanctuaries for illegal aliens.

:pccoffee:  Finally a truly spring-like day here. I have plenty of chores to do outside, time to get to them!

We're building a garage this year. The plans are made, permissions obtained. I still need to get the permit filled out and sent off but they tell me the turnaround is pretty quick on those. We had the trees cut down last week which means we're kind of committed at this point! Plus I have a heap of logs that need cutting and splitting. Just what I needed, more chores.

Still trying to decide on what to get to replace my Simplicity garden tractor that died last year. Ariens zero-turn is near the top of the list but I'm not completely sold on pulling a trailer around with it, plus the deck is much harder to remove which makes deck cleaning and maintenance a lot harder. But decent tractors are hard to find and mostly too big for our needs. Still digging and researching, but I have to decide soon because stuff is starting to pop up in the yard...
