I just took off my 2nd gen TRD Pro suspension off my 3rd gen. and one of my rear 5160w/resi apparently lost charge. Easy to compress and slow to return. Anyways does anyone know what Toyota’s warranty is on this?
I called Bilstein and they can’t even touch them. He said I can find a shock rebuilder and see if they can fix it. Other wise it’s trash. He said shocks built for Toyota are proprietary design and they don’t even have the specs to rebuild them.

So I got straight answer from a dealer. If bought as an accessory then 1 year. Question now is where can I send it to get rebuilt.

You already got your answer, but in case someone else needs it, these would be covered for 3 years / 36,000 miles (60,000 km) or 1 year / unlimited mileage (USA) or 12,000 miles (20,000 km) (Canada), whichever is longer, if installed at a dealership. If you purchase the part and install it at another shop or by yourself, the warranty is 1 year / unlimited mileage.

That is strange, that they wouldn't have spec's for rebuilding. They built them for Toyota, and Toyota just put their stickers on them.

Generally when Toyota contracts a company to provide an accessory to them, they only deal with Toyota on that product. It's not that Bilstein wouldn't have the specs, it's likely that they're in the hands of the design/manufacturing engineering documents which are not released to the service/repair department. They're an OE part and will be dealt with differently than if you bought aftermarket Bilstein components.

I did. Waiting to hear back from a couple. Thing with the 5160 is that they don’t come serviceable from Bilstein. Bilstein does make a kit from what I have read that makes them serviceable. Another issue is that they are proprietary valveing is to Toyota specs. So if anything is broken I would imagine they would just go with the next best valveing for it. This not really an issue but maybe some places just don’t want to deal with it. I will wait and see. If not I will just sell the fronts and just throw in the backs and tell them the issue and they can deal with it. Probably not worth the headache though. Just sucks that they lost charge in just a year and 3 months.

Maybe if they still had the contract for building the pro kits...
And Toyota didn’t blow out all of their inventory dirt cheap last year, canabalizimg their 6112/5160sales....
Maybe they would have been more helpful...

I have same set-up, also. Just about same age as yours. Like you mention, new owner of them can order new 5160's, or another model (5100's, 8100's) Your right it sucks...
