Rock Climbing!

Does anybody else here rock climb?

 

indoor currently. been outdoor in the gorge (oregon/washington border) once and had a blast. i'm not very good... can hit a few 5.9's and maaaaaybbe a 5.10 every once in a while.

 

Nice, I lead 5.8 in the gym and can climb most 5.10s just haven't had the urge to lead anything tough yet haha. I climb outside as much as I can which hasn't been as often as I'd like!

 

How's the climbing in AZ? I'd imagine it's pretty stellar!

 

The rock out here is either absolutely awesome or really chossy and falls apart unexpectedly but over all its great!

 

fellow climber bump, do a little bit of everything pretty much, from bouldering to top rope to lead to trad. I never aided anything yet... but have done some ice climbing as well as some mixed.

haven't been doing the indoor gym game recently but have climbed a bunch out west in the bay area, tahoe, yosemite, joshua tree and as well out here in the north east in the gunks, central park, some areas of NJ

 

Yes, I'm old, nearly 68, so I mostly climb sport, projecting into low 12's and have the following request: I'm outfitting a Tacoma with a Dometic electric cooler. I plan to add a solar panel and, most likely, an additional battery. The only other significant load would be a laptop and, of course, an iPhone and reading LED. I expect to carry ropes and gear in the camper as well as the cab, so acidic fumes are, naturally, a concern. Attached is a photo of a 100 watt flexible solar panel mockup. I'd much appreciate any input regarding your experience with the matter, specifically placement of a second battery. Being mostly retired is great for spending lots of time camping and pushing grades, that is, if you're lucky enough to still have functional bones. Thanks for your thoughts.

 

I climb, sport, trad and boulder. Though mostly boulder these days. ;-)

for the battery I would consider possibly putting it under the hood of the truck, this would greatly help preserve your cabin and bed space.
I often keep ropes and climbing gear in the cab to help protect from moisture in the bed (my bed cap is not 100% sealed up)
for the cost of portable lanterns and headlamps I have decided to forgo hardwiring lights for the time being personally

 

Thanks, I'll look for a spot in the engine compartment then. And, I agree regarding lighting. Keep it simple with rechargeable battery lamps. Better to spend my time on silly things like climbing rocks. Best.
