Finally, I've started to do my own maintenance after 7 1/2 years. Now trying to find the CORRECT oil filter wrench. Dealer sold me Toyota Oil Filter 90915-YZZG2. I asked for a Oil Filter wrench and he said they were $32!!! I'm not cheap, but come on.....

All I know is my filter has 14 flats. Diameter I'm not sure? Reading anything on internet from 64MM to 74MM. Can anyone steer me to the correct direction for my factory oil filter for a 2.7L 4 cylinder Tacoma. I'd appreciate it. Links would be helpful. Thx.

No. Oil filter is in vertical postition under vehicle in cramped area unlike your V6.

if you torque the filter properly you should be able to get it off by hand every oil change

some may have compromised grip strength and an OEM filter being smooth may make it harder.

Fair point, it comes off for me very easily every time but im sure thats not the case for everyone. Theres a metal plate up there that makes it really hard to get any tools high enough, so thats honestly my only suggestion

I getcha, i spun filters at a few quicklube places, alot of days 50-80 per shift and i almost never needed any filter tool besides on diesels. But not everyone has the same grip strength and or its deteriorated over the years. Its easy to forget this.... I know ive done it many times.

I would just grip the filter, straighten my arm and use shoulder leverage

Are you doing the filter from under the front of the truck?
Try going under from behind front passenger wheel.
It’s actually pretty open except the guard as mentioned.
I seen other posts about turning wheels driver side and pulling rubber splash piece.

Yes, as Muddinfun wrote, I have a 2001 Tacoma 2.7, oil filter had been on for over two years as I don't go very far every year. Couldn't get the filter off with my hand, laying under the truck. Picked up the Lisle #63600 at Advance Auto for 20.00 plus tax. A little tricky getting it into place under the filter but once in place, came right off easily. Seems like the tool will last forever.

I just use 09228-07501. Toyota says that is the SST for the 2.7 and it works great.
