Process for applying undercoating at dealer

I'm due to have my 04 Dcab frame undercoated at the dealer on Friday 4/1. What is the process the service dept. uses for the ubdercoating? Do they strip the frame to bare metal before applying the undercoat? Do they clean the inside of the frame rails (power wash)? I'm debating whether I want them to do this or just keep up with my own anti rust campaign.

from what ive seen different places do it differently.. most just pressure wash and apply.. I would think that is more than fine when a vehicle is brand new.

 

I don't think his 04 is brand new...

 

just telling yah what i know! .. Ive seen it just sprayed on older vehicles with no prep work before other than a rinse. but im sure thats not the right way to do it

 

No worries... someone was gonna say it anyway so I figured I should since I was the first to see it. But I agree with you, the pre-existing rust needs to be taken care of before coating it. Otherwise, it'll just keep rusting underneath.

 

haha yeah im glad you got it out of the way ! I did my wheel wells today it was definetly a cosmetic application more than functional but I am more than pleased with the look. i have an 09 and I would like to undercoat the frame. Im also wondering if i need to do any prep. I dont have rust by any means but there is some minor spots from rock chips etc. maybe just a minor sand before?
