Could use some more upload though. My wife wants to start doing the youtube with her art stuff. Will be a pain if we have to dedicate a computer all day just to upload some videos.

Best part about it is it costs the same as 50 for the first 12 months.

My gigabit FiOS price dropped to $79 a month. Pretty happy about that. It consistently gives 900/825. And very reliable service. Can't complain.

Any opinions on Kinetic by Windstream?

No fiber to home options yet where I live, but maybe in the next 10 years Appalachia will wise up.

Currently have Spectrum/Charter and supposed to get 100/10, normal day is closer to 60/5 average, with a 40 ping. It's gone up to $70 from $45.
The Kinetic package would be 200/80 or 300/80 for ~$45.

I figure I see the junk specs due to everyone working (kids gaming) at home or simply people who just don't work in my neighborhood. Highly likely I'd be the only customer on Kinetic so I shouldn't get bottle-necked, and eliminate the higher pings.
Windstream gets a bad rep for typically being the only available service in very rural areas, I'm 7 minutes from 'downtown'.

I'm not from your area so I can only give a general comment. If those providers are still using the same copper to your door then it's pretty much guaranteed they share the same node in your neighborhood and just lease bandwidth from whoever the true owner is. That means that your internet, from either or, will be shit if too many people are logged on and using bandwidth at once. The only time you see a real difference switching copper providers is if the back end hardware is seperate and from I've seen and heard about the US that's usually not the case.

I know that Spectrum is coax, as most others are here, and Windstream is bonded DSL/phone lines with a fiber backbone. We have fiber to the POP sites from the main switches, then it converts into copper to homes.
AT&T, I think, it the only fiber-to-home provider and VERY limited coverage with a high price tag.

My ex had Spectrum and it wasn't fast. Wasn't cheap either. My area has Cox. Can't say if they share nodes or not, but the speed is decent and consistent. Rarely have an issue.

Everyone is using fiber backbone now. It's pretty rare to not see fiber after the neighborhood node. The question is more, at the last routing point to your house how many users are sharing the same connection point? With fiber in and out the connection point is only limited by the speed of the hardware used since fiber, in general, can handle more connections than are typically used in a neighborhood setting. When copper comes into the mix it becomes limited by the last point at which the copper merges to hardware since copper cannot handle multiple connections the way fiber does.

Fiber to the home is actually pretty cheap when done right. By that I mean it's cheaper now to lay fiber than it was to lay copper back in the day. The problem in the US is that no one wants to make that initial investment to bury the lines without commitment. In other countries fiber is being adopted quickly because municipalities, or higher levels of government, are subsidizing the costs allowing for lower commitment rates to be profitable. Also in the US there is no real legislation around leasing fiber capacity, where in other jurisdictions there is which let's the first company to lay a new line to a home recoup their costs even if the customer never buys service directly from them. I live in a community of 8,000 people in rural Canada and we have fiber to the door, with the option of buying that service from several companies even though the line is owned by a large telecom. It's not a hard concept, it's just that the US refuses to setup a consumer friendly model for what should be a simple service.

Anyways, all a bit off topic but given the two use very different copper into the home the less saturated service should perform better under load. If Windstream has a cancellation period you could always give them a shot and run both for a bit to see which works better for your specific area.

It's so frustrating. I live 10 minutes away right off of a main highway from a population of 250k where there's 1gb fiber internet, and the only option i have is fixed wireless with speeds of 20down/10up. Yet some tiny town in the middle of nowhere texas can get 1gig fiber from the local telephone coop.

Then just did a speed test at work with my AT&T wireless service and got 140 down and 40 up.
