    Hi all,

I was trying to find resources on wiring up the brakelight for my new-to-me LEER topper.

I have a uhaul towing package installed and was wondering if there was an easy way to use just that cabling instead of having to splice my own

    See attached:

    The LEER topper connector:

    And the uhaul connector:

    Any help is appreciated

    Thanks!

You are going to have problems.

If you use the trailer plug, the 3rd light is going to flash when you use your signals.

You need to meter upstream of the converter box to find out which wire is for the brake lights.

Most installers just use wire taps and tap off of the wires going to your left brake light. Not saying that's the best way, but it's the most common (a proper tin, knotted tap joint, solder and then tape would be better than taps but it's not like an LED light is drawing much amperage). Two pins are for the third brake and the other two are for the interior light if you have one.

This guy covers the basics including running a 12v line for the light. I'd recommend running a heavier gauge fused wire and either putting a loom on it or at least securing it to the other wiring so that it can't move and rub. The reason I'd run a heavier gauge is that in the future you may want to add things like USB charging ports, an outlet for a fridge, etc. (ex: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072FJRYSK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1%29 ). You can add a switched relay so that it's only powered when the truck is on or add a low voltage cutoff if you're worried about accidentally draining your battery.

You need to clean your trailer plug, slather a little dielectric grease on it and put one of the caps on it. When they start corroding you'll get poor continuity and the parts will eventually pull out.
