44k is indeed early to experience a belt failure, however, as inexpensive as they are, you might as well just swap it out and call it a day. Shit happens.

Ok, thanks! I have a long handled socket wrench in the kit already, just need a spare belt.

Is your truck under warranty ? Seems weird for a belt to go that soon.

Shouldn't it be the other way around?

179k miles on my 08 and still on the original belt. I'm to the point where I expect to have to change it soon along with the water pump.

    What year/ what engine?

Just changed the serpentine belt on my FJ Cruiser (2007/4.0) for the first time at 135,000 miles. Not the exact same engine as a Tacoma, but similar. There were no issues, chirping sounds etc but just figured it was time (i.e. preventative maintenance). My Tacoma (2015/4.0) is just over 60,000 miles and no plans in the near future to change the belt.

Seems early for it to be so worn.

    No.
Might want to source something to block the tensioner to make installation easier, though.

Just snapped a 15/64” drill bit that may work- will have to dig the shaft out of the trash, but it’s still there. Thanks!

I would try squinting the tensioner pulley with WD40 to see if the squeak stops . Serpentine belts have little cracks in them and you can change it in 10 minutes . If it is the belt and you change it keep the old one in the truck for an emergency spare or just buy the $30 belt and put it in the truck for now .

How come a 2016 with 44K miles isn't covered under warranty with this ?

Pulley, belts, and idlers are covered by the standard 2yr/24K month Federal Emissions Warranty and 3yr/36K month Basic Warranty.
It is not a part covered by California Emissions Warranties; 3yr/50K(Short-term), 7yr/70K(Long-term).
Nor, is it a part listed in the 5yr/60K Powertrain Warranty.
Nor, is it a part listed as "8/80" in the Federal Emissions Warranty.

Dang that is quick, don't blink !
A belt should last more than 100K, should be looked after under the 60K warranty
