I finally received the mechanic’s guide from Toyota for doing your own spark plug change for your 3rd gen taco. The only parts needed are the two gaskets under the Air Surge Tank. $30 CAD
    Cheers!

Page 3, 5(a) states to install a “new air surge tank”...
Was told that if the tank isn’t damaged, no need to buy a new one.

So after reading that post of being able to do the plugs easier and without doing any research into this, the only question I have is is there a valid reason to taking off the air surge tank that is necessary other than for driver’s side plug removal? Do the techs need to look in there for some sort of inspection at 96,000kms that is ‘off the books’ per say. Having a mechanical engineer in the family who always thinks there are ways of doing things more simply, either Toyota’s engineers drafted up this step by step process to make the plug install longer thereby charging us more or there is some other reason. Maybe the author(s) had ADHD and distracted while writing??
