does anyone in here know what needs to be done to bypass the coolant around the TB, and what benefits can be had from doing this? Slightly lower intake temps perhaps?

 

I can’t remember my last time driving NA, to say the least it’s completely no fun! But I was curious how the truck would drive without a SC belt. Surprising pretty good. As for new bearings. I couldn’t believe how quick the grease dissipated from the last time I switched out bearings for the idlers. Luckily I was able to repack grease in my tensioner pulley. But I had to install a new bearing on the other since it completely grenaded with not much warning.

I can’t stress enough that anyone on the 2.5 SC pulley or less should keep an eye on the tensioner pulley and idler pulley that’s right next to the overdrive pulley. Those two for some reason need the bearings repacked with grease at least every 50k. The other idlers seemed completely fine. Just sayin

Need some insight you guys.

So at 60k, I did a supercharger service with the Magnuson supercharger service kit. I'm at 75k now and today, I noticed the supercharger is much louder at idle and when driving.

This afternoon I have driven it to 3 different stores to run errands. After my first stop, it got back to being quiet after starting the truck up and pulling out of the parking lot. After the 2nd and 3rd stop, it did not go back to being quiet, it stayed running loud. It's like the sound of the gears are amplified.

Anyone experience this? Any info is greatly appreciated!

I'll check that out, but I believe that was replaced when the service was done.

 

You all have no clue how happy it makes me to see others using the correct term, Bimmer. The "rich and famous" have really screwed up people terms of what to call it. Unless it only has 2 wheels, it is not a beamer! There is a lady in town that has a E34 with a huge sticker in the back window that says Beamer Girl and custom plates that say BEMRGRL. I will never see that car in traffic and be able to think that she is any bit intelligent.

 

Did you do the service or someone else? What all was done during this service?

You need to check this out before driving it more.
It sounds like it is low or out of oil.

I see your passion on this. Equal for me is other motorists giving the left of way in traffic. Oh, and snapchat. The world would be better off without either.

 

Did you replace the stock spring coupling? If not, that’s probably the culprit

 

What sort of noise is it that you are hearing? Is it a sort of clackety type? Did you switch out to the solid nose drive coupler over the old spring loaded OE one?

If you did, the sound is NORMAL.

 

Snapchat amplifies narcissists behaviors to the point where they are more insufferable than they were in the first place. It is the bane of my existence. Lol.

 

My mechanic did it (I'm his service adviser). I bought the service/rebuild kit (Part # 83-40-00-023) through Magnuson. Trying to remember what it was exactly. I remember it was a drain plug, gasket, a few seals, coupler, new oil and something else. Having the tech look at it later on today. It does sound like it's low on oil but I don't see a leak anywhere.

I believe the rebuild kit had one and we replaced it.

Not too sure, but I don't think any of this sounds normal. I drive the truck everyday, it should just change sounds after 15k miles.

 

I assume this is only if you have the NST suite of idlers...

 

When my spring coupling went out, it sounded like a bunch of rocks in the noise drive section. Terrible noise. I replaced it with a solid coupling at 90K miles and never looked back. The solid coupling is very quiet and very reliable. My guess would be that the coupling may not have been replaced as part of the kit as you're creeping up on the mileage I was at when mine went.... I also had a scored shaft that needed to be sleeved at the same time. My best advice is to confirm the source the noise and if it's in the nose cone section you really should have it looked at and even rebuilt......
