Well Long story... short. I have the Rear Suspension TSB for a 2008.....

    BUT!

Friday morning (8:00 AM) I delivered my truck to my Local Toyota Dealer (Laredo, TX), two days before I faxed the updated TSB, same day I received a call back they will order parts (Wednesday), Thursday noon they call me and told me parts arrived (great!), then on Friday the big day... 5:45 PM on Friday truck was "finished", I received my keys and they showed me (with PRIDE) my new suspension... , New shocks and a whole new rear suspension... Immediately a let them know that it should be four leaves instead of three... worst... I mentioned them that the TSB needed on my truck does not requires new shocks (4 installed), by know it was 6:00PM time to close and I let them know I need my printed TSB and I will inspect the installation at home (I could not believe it). Saturday 9:00 AM I arrived to the PARTS department (before anything else), I requested the new Rear Spring part and I cannot believe it they had it! (the four leaves TSB spring), I told the part guy to leave it there, I called the Customer service representative and explain all to him (wrong installation procedure PRE-RUNNER vs. TRD), after he understood the whole guacamole they did a day before he called the Service Manager, I had to explain him again and point to the correct part number(in front of him)... but my first sentence to him was MY TRD TACOMA WAS DEMOTED, 15 minutes of long waiting, reviewing the TSB, reading it (believe it, it was the first time he has done it) and at the end he agreed… your Tacoma did not received the correct parts it will be ready today at 2:00PM (Saturday).

And I'm here typing this Halloween story.

    PLEASE BE ADVISED...
I did notice that their system is not updated, it does not shows the new part (Rear spring Assy) as a replacement for the old, and when the Toyota "technician" look at the TSB, request parts for it and they don't show up... then they select the old one as current and correct part to install, why I got this conclusion? Well before I arrived at the Toyota Dealer today I called the parts department in Universal Toyota at San Antonio, TX to request the same information for the rear suspension... "part number does not exist, is not correct... please provide another one or provide me with the truck's VIN #"... No they do not have their system updated.

If you are going to your dealer and they accept to do this TSB, let them know about the correct part number that belong to your truck and avoid all this.

One POSITIVE thing... the second Rear Suspension TSB they performed at Laredo will be the correct one from the very first time.... I hope so.

Sorry you had to go through that trouble mvega. We shouldn't have to do the dealers job!

Excellent different perspective as far as their system not being updated. This write up should help others to be aware.

Everone take heed, this has happened to others also. When I had mine done they did not like it that I first pointed out the correct numbers on the TSB they were to order, and when they arrived I made them go back and check to be sure the new springs were a 4 pack before I gave them my keys! But I say too bad. They work for us, make them!

When I walk in now, they all scatter for the door, its truly funny.

I know is for good, they will need to review everything at least on us before they even say ... "here Mr. is ready"

Hope it works out for you. Do they work on alot of trucks at your dealership? I know when I was shopping for mine some dealers had very few (if any) Tacos or Tundras on the lot, while others had one or two dozen depending on what part of the city they were in.

Did you have to demonstrate any suspension fault before they agreed to do it?

knowledge is POWER. You took it with you. Good for you and your ability to understand what needed to be done and not taking their word for it. It never pays off to play stupid especially when it comes to something we are very dear to (& could cost up to 30k). Nice work!

Laredo is not big enought to have more than one dealership at this time (Ford, GM, Nissan, Dodge or Toyota) and they usually do not have plenty of inventory and when they do ther is no variety as a past experience on 2004 when shoping around for a new year model Sienna they had only one (brought from Alamo Toyota at San Antonio, TX), it was around May that year, they bug me for around a month trying to sell it to me... it was not our choice of color, features and they had booked like at least 5 more drive test that same day, finally I bought one, guess where (Alamo Toyota at San Antonio), and I finished everything with 3 phone calls and delivered at my door. Almost the same happened with my 2008 Tacoma, lack of inventory took me to San Antonio again (Universal Toyota) after dealing with three different quotes, I got my color, features (all of them) and best of all price, (it was September of 2007).

They did not request any test at all prior to apply the Rear Suspension TSB.
