    Hey there -

I have a 2018 SR5 with the OEM drop in bedliner and tailgate cover. Recently, I noticed that on the left side of the bed the bedliner and tailgate or rubbing. The black coating is coming off the bottom of the bedliner and tailgate where they meet when the tailgate is closed. I will post a photo of it. Anyways - I took it to dealership I bought it from and they told me a tech said the tailgate is out of alignment and I needed to take it to the body shop. This morning I went to the dealership's body shop and they told me the tailgate isn't out of alignment and that it's probably the bedliner itself. I was then redirdredi back to the service department. Service then said they would have to open a tech report for this. They then tried to make me go home without doing an report or anything for Toyota....I pushed back and now I'm waiting for whatever they have to do. I am concerned something isn't lining up right and I don't want a bigger problem later.

Has anyone dealt with this before? The truck was bought new in July and has 5,800 miles on it. I don't abuse it - hell it hasn't carried much. They asked if it had been hit and to my knowledge it hasn't. There's no dents or scratches anywhere...

Is the tailgate visually out of alignment? Does it look odd somehow? It's most likely fine.
Get a new mat of trim the one you have....when things are mass produced, they're bound to be off a few millimeters now and then.

So I'm not an expert BUT it does look like the Gap is bigger on one side than the other. However, the body shop said there was no issue. She did notate that the right side is slightly higher than the left... The left side is the one rubbing. When I get it back I will try to get a good picture of it all.

Are the rubber bumper stops/pads still in the tailgate jamb, on each side near the top? Tailgate will slide, side to side a little. I added tailgate seal and helped that movement.

My 2018 has the same issue. But its the same on both sides. It doesn’t concern me so I didn’t address it. I figure it will wear down to a point and stop. Problem solved.

Strange that the dealer told you it’s a “drop in bedliner”. Because that’s actually the bed. On second thought it’s not surprising the dealer doesn’t know what they are talking about.

What kind of Drop In Bed Liner do you have, I wasn't aware of anyone making them? You may just want to go with a Toyota Bed Mat instead.

Agree with others - a drop in liner is useless in the composite bed. A mat is worthwhile to limit your load sliding around.

Take it out and if the problem goes away - you're golden; except for being down a few $$$ from the original purchase.
