With the controls in the mic you can mount the radio unit under the seat and wire it to the battery. Do Not use the lighter connection, it will put a huge amount of engine noise into your signal. With it under the seat, a small external speaker may be necessary. Uniden also has a mag mount antenna that you can put in the center of the roof for occasional use. A permanent mounting solution would depend on your rig setup. It's not only useful on the trails. It will be fine for highway travel as well. It's a basic, legal power level, 40 channel CB. Not one of the high power trucker units.

Search TW for CB setup to get ideas on where to mount an antenna. I have mine above my right tail light using a caliraised light mount. I actually have a smaller cb mounted on my headliner. Sufficient for trail or highway.

CB radio with downward facing speaker, and an external speaker from my HAM radio under the passenger seat.

If I was doing it again I'd pick a handheld setup like that instead of the Uniden Pro 520XL I have. We aren't trying to talk to space, just the trucks nearby. Sets like you linked are easier to install and don't need a dedicated space, you can jam them under the seat for the trip.

Good to see on you on here Elvis, I am pretty sure we had chat either at Jambo last year or at Fall Run at the entrance to Clydes Ravine as you were at the tailgunner of a run and I was leading some sort of run with some friends and trying to figure out if I wanted to go go down clydes or find an alternate trail to head down.

    @ETXTacoma

When you mounted that antenna for your gmrs, did you half to tune that with the radio? Talking about the 6db gain one.

    Thanks

BTW. If anyone wants SWR ( antenna tuning ) checked, I can check AM, FM all bands. Luckily, FRS GRMS is UHF and does not need as large as groundplane

Didn’t think so, (still learning) but had to ask. Need to look into this more, have a spare mount that I could use.

    RF is RF.
Most UHF only antenna don't Have provisions for tuning

Damaged coax, connectors or a poor groundplane will show reflected power.
    I always check my stuff.
    I also fabricate my cables.

I'll probably get a better antenna. This one is dinky.

It's not the size of the antenna, it's the strength of your signal :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Not the size of the tool, but how you use it.. ;)
That's most likely a unity gain antenna.
With a full 25 watts, no issue crossing barwell.

As a side note, back in the good old days, when Jambo was in winter.. my dual cb whips and stock radio was the only thing that would reach the office from old camp. Bone stock radio.

A well tuned antenna is a must if you wheel in large areas.
