Different H9 bulbs, but you can see the upper inner tab is trimmed off on the right. I’d have to look back to find the harness. Once all this is done I’ll update the front page with all this info to build a better reference for everyone.

I got 4 as soon as you posted the link lol. Never hurts to have backups.

How much do the harnesses that were previously mentioned run?

I ordered Phillips H9’s from Amazon (Amazon was the seller) back in September and received Chinese bulbs, not German. Unfortunately maybe it’s a crapshoot to what you’ll actually get?

I ordered some H9's from Amazon for my buddy and they were the Philips H9 but they said Designed in Germany, Made in PRC (China). So I wonder if it's a crap shoot as to which you receive?

    Same package as yours.

I’m seeing lots of questionable reviews on the Amazon link saying similar.... Time will tell

    See post #738 by @Tacosrus.

That link does show the bulbs as German in the more photos. If the Chinese bulbs showed up, I’d send them back.

Fortunately Amazon has super easy returns if they do ship the Chinese ones. I’d definitely send the China ones back.

Mine just arrived from Amazon. Both made in Germany like the stock high beams.

Ordered the philips h9 from Amazon (same link crashnburn) about 1 month ago and was sent the Chinese made version. They still seem better than the factory h11 that came in my 4Runner. I’ll try again to get the German made. This is a crap shoot. The last pic of these on the amazon site contradicts the actual back side of their bulb housing pic that states “german made”...back side of the packaging “Made in China” below the bar code.

That’s right about the box pictured, I remember that when I ordered these I was expecting to get the China ones and was presently surprised to get the German ones. That is a bit annoying on Amazon’s part.

I’ll trade 2 new German ones for 2 new China ones if anyone wants to trade via priority mail flat rate shipping swap. I’ve got a bunch of the German Philips and would like to collect the data on the Chinese Philips to see how they compare.

Edit: Trade offer has been taken.

It's not an Amazon problem, it is a Phillips problem. They consider the two bulbs to be equal and just made in different facilities so they sell them as the same product. The distribution center receives bulbs from both sources that are packaged the same and they sell them all from the same listing. That's why some get the German bulbs and some get the China bulbs.

To me, if the bulbs are made on the same production equipment, with the same QA process (machine vision inspection etc.), it should not matter what country the plant is located in. I guess the QA has to extend through the whole supply chain. I doubt Philips would risk its reputation, they would likely make a separate brand for the bulbs made of Chinesium if the goal was to hit a lower price/quality point.

It is certainly technically possible to build an equivalent China product to a German one. But the reason for building in China is typically cost cutting, whether cost cutting is intentionally or unintentionally applied to the product build is another thing. And as you point out, raw materials supply chain could also be more of an issue. They are maybe using different suppliers for the different plants. Is the raw tungsten filament material on spec per the supplier, or does it have other impurities? It’s Philips, so it isn’t going to be a bad product, but that also doesn’t mean the German one won’t be better. I don’t know what the difference is, if any, which is why I would like to test them to compare.

The German Osrams are lower than the Hellas. The German Philips H9s are just higher than the Hellas. Turns out the expensive Philips Vision bulbs are identical to the Standard Philips German bulbs.
