So this weekend, I decided to plasti dip the off-road wheels on my 2018 Tacoma. They turned out great! Anyone thinking about taking on the task, I highly recommend it. These wheels definitely look good in black.veLgdCYyRuGtvKC-YpjXkg.jpgrUj16IdqQEOUUU0b38pm5w.jpg

These look great! Thinking about doing the same to my 2018 stock rims.

What size tires are you guys running? They look beefier than the stock Goodyear Wranglers mine came with.

Just regular stock tires on mine. I did 4 coats of plastidip and 2 coats of glossifier.

Are you finding that the Plastidip is chipping / peeling away from use and pitted with rocks and road debris? or is it holding up pretty well?

This looks great but I am seriously skeptical that it will hold up.

I’ve had it for about a month now, no chips or marks yet. And if it does? Easy spray to fix.

Did this on my old Chevy a few years ago. The only thing that fucked it up was Tire Discounters.

Did you plastidip the center cap as well or did you leave it alone? Looking to do this as well.

I did do the caps as well. I popped the toyota emblem off sprayed the caps and popped the emblem back on. Guess you would do all black if you wanted.

I really like the look of the chrome logo on an all black wheel. I didn't even know the logo popped off the cap. Thanks for the help! Saves me a lot of time with painters tape and a Xacto knife!

I recommend the vinyl overlays. They’ve held up through 2 winters and 3 tire changes

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Did it on my '06 because the finish was coming off and they looked like hell.

I sprayed mine about 1.5 years ago, and they haven’t peeled yet :)

think it was 5 coats, using 4 cans

I painted mine on the truck - it’s really easy to do:

Clean the wheels & thoroughly dry

stuff some plastic bags between the spikes & expand them, to mask off everything behind the wheel - try not to have the plastic bags touch the wheels

put a light coat of tire shine on the tire (use a thin piece of cardboard, so the tire shine doesn’t get onto the wheel)

After you’re done with all your coats, can pull out the plastic bags to trash them

any overspray on the tires will peel easily

I dipped my camper trailer wheels a couple of years ago. Holds up well but attracts dirt like crazy and needs some extra attention with the power washer to get clean.

Debating on cleaning it back to chrome.
