Fingers crossed for hopefully at least 4.6 V8 Tacoma. Doubt it will happen, but I can dream

These tacos could definitely benefit from a small v8.

Why on earth would they call the platform F1?:rofl::rofl:

I know it’s irrelevant, but F1 is the last thing to cross my mind when considering Toyota pickups.

I pray they don't do away with the Manual Trans Models on the new platform

I think it's going to cut manufacturing costs, but have some concern around what the truck will be giving up. Ford did this in the late 90's around the most commonly used parts, so things like front end drive accessories (alternator, AC compressor, etc) were common across as many engines as they could be. I could see something like a specific frame / cab / body to each truck, but the doors were common, the Tundra having a visible "pillar" between the front & back doors to add legroom. Common seats would be nice, just because a truck is smaller, the occupants aren't, so I have hopes at some point the Taco seats will be more comfortable (could it get worse?). Things like wiring harnesses & plumbing should be able to be "modularized" to work across models.

I'm hopeful that accessories might be cross-model.

Toyota has confirmed manufacturing cost will be halved, but price is still going up 20%.

And that's why we got the third GEN MTs! :bananadance:

I figured the biggest changes in the future would be saftey stuff at a significant price, so I'm happy I went new and started with 0 miles on an MT when I did. I'll ride this thing off into the sunset

Good Lord, if they copied the Ridgeline for the next Tacoma sales would practically come to a standstill.

It cuts costs for Toyota but doesn't benefit Tacoma buyers. For us it just means some components will be overweight and the truck will be more of a pig than being on its own platform.

The 4.6L V8 already fits in the Taco - since the GX460 uses the same platform as the Taco/4Runner/FJ. Toyota chose not to make it available.

Kinematic Energy Recovery System. What gives F1 cars their "beast mode."
It's hard. Really hard to do but whoever cracks that nut for mass production economically is going to increase efficiency by 20% or so, which is bigbigbig.
Think about using the energy you lost going down a long grade and using that to supplement the energy required to go up the next hill.
Or, think about using the energy you lost slowing down for that stoplight when you accelerate away from that stoplight.
This is as close to "free" energy as you get but figuring it out on a production scale is... hard.

I'm just holding out for the first real deal truck hybrid electric motor. Not watered down by the epa. But designed with actual work in mind
