I've had a white 2007 4wd Access Cab v6 manual Tacoma for the past few years now and have racked up a fair amount of miles since I bought it used. Right now I'm sitting at just over 112k miles and am wondering if I should take in the words of Shia LaBeouf and Nike, and "just do it" when it comes to modding and lifting my truck. As she stands she can't quite make it through some of the larger puddles as easily as I would like...

I have been drooling over the new 2018 and 2019 Tacomas for a while now and like many others, my funds are not unlimited (shocking). Modding a brand new 2k19 truck seems out of my price range even if I can technically afford the monthly payments alone.

I love my current truck even though it doesn't have all the fancy TRD off-road packages and having the extra cab space in a double cab for pesky friends to trash the back seat is not a priority. Longer bed is always a plus for me. Double plus, it's manual, and to me that's just a better driving experience.

    Dear Abby,

Am I really missing out on that much from the TRD off-road package that I cannot mod my current situation to be the same or even better? Should I care about that many miles in a Tacoma with regular, to the letter, oil changes and maintenance? Really, how much more convenient is having a double cab?

I'm a 24 year old programmer with a desk job getting fatter by the minute and have little experience with "mans work." I like deep puddles and loose burritos. Having a pretty truck isn't what I'm looking for. I'm looking for scratches, dents and that time I flipped her going 30 mph up a tree.

    Thanks,

    -LG

Easy man go buy you a new one so you have something to drive while you mod the old one. Play around with different lifts and setups so that when the time comes to mod the new one you will know exactly what you want.

Do what you want it’s your money. The 07 is going on 13 years old at the end of the day and you got good run out of it. I would buy new and mod the old one to make it a dedicated fun rig.
