I have a 2015 4 door. And it says on the column that I have DRL's-but they shut off... Anyway, like the idea of a white LED with the Amber turn signal. Decided on Diode Dynamics bulbs, but their web site left me wondering so I emailed them-response was prompt and said that their bulbs would NOT work in my truck. Okay. I have a hard time with 'no'. especially when I like the idea... so, all you Tacoma wiring guru's, what do I need to do to make this work? Seems that the older model 2nd gens are not a problem and the non-DRL trucks. So what is different? Anybody know?

DRL's use the bright filament in a 2 filament bulb. Your dim filament isn't connected to anything. To accomplish what you want to do, you need CK switchback white/amber LED bulbs. The wiring would need to be added to the dim filament part of the socket, and connected to a power source to power the white LEDs. Then leave your DRL switch turned off. The amber LEDs have priority over the white, so if the amber is lit, the white goes off. Make sure the switchbacks you get are amber/off/amber and not amber/white/amber. You will also need to deal with the hyperflash. This can be done with a non DRL LED flasher and a grey plastic jumper block, or you can install resistors. 1 guy on here posted that he wasn't able to do the non DRL LED flasher and grey plastic jumper block on a '12 because of some extra wiring for the tow package at the flasher. No one else seems to have that problem.

So, technically, "no" is the short answer for, they won't work right out of the box.

Thanks for the reply. Trying to wrap my head around this... so both the DRL's and the blinker use the same filament (wire) currently. Okay, add a wire. Can I have the wire I add be on teh DRL circuit so it works the same way at the switch? A am assuming it is a matter of finding that wire where it joins with the blinker and making it its own path to the light. Once that is done and they are separated is there a voltage difference that needs to be addressed so the bulb knows to override the white when the blinker goes on? Am I on the right track here?

Nope, you're on the wrong path. There are 4 output wires out of the fuse box. 2 that feed the front turn signals/drls and 2 that feed the rear turn signals and dash indicators. The factory DRLs and front turn signals are the same filaments, and the same wires. The flasher decides if they are energized constant for DRL or flashing for turn signals.

To do what you want to do, you need to decide when you want to energize the switchback DRLs. If you want them on whenever the key is on, wire them to a key on power source. If you want them on when the park lights are on, wire them to the outside corner park lights. If you want them wired to a separate switch, then you would go key on energized circuit to an added on switch to the DRLs.

@Muddinfun can you explain what you mean above? You say he needs the CK switchback white/amber LED bulbs but later on you say to get amber/off/amber. So which is it? I'm trying to do the same thing on my 2012.

Front turn signal bulbs must be CK. If the package doesn't cay CK on it then they're not CK.

For the switchback, like I mentioned, if both circuits are powered, amber has priority and white doesn't light while amber is lit. There are 2 types of switchbacks. The amber/off/amber and amber/white/amber refers to what happens when you have the turn signal on. The amber/off/amber bulbs have a delay built into the white so it doesn't light in between amber pulses. The amber/white/amber bulbs do not have a delay so that in between amber pulses, they will light white and not be as noticeable to the people drinking coffee and talking on a cell phone with a dog on their lap and screaming kids in the back seat.

That's good! Except you forgot the parts about Instagram and putting makeup on.

Ok so if I wanna do the white DRL's with amber turn signals, I just have to buy the CK amber/off/amber bulbs? I have a 2012 with always on DRL's. Do I need to do any wiring or just change bulbs?
