Just bought a 2017 MGM TRD Sport. I test drove a white one and ncould not come to grips with a white vehicle. SOo I narrowed it down to black, red or magnetic grey. I needed a double cab and long bed. I had bought a 1991 Pickup in 2000 that I brought out to Colorado with me. I loved it, my dad continues to drive it from time to time as it has 280k on it.

Found one not to far away in New Hampshire and jumped on it.

Only issue that has come up is the truck would not go into 4Lo, I tested 4H at dealership going about 35 and no issue. Brought it home and used 4H again a couple times, but as soon as I put into 4Lo it would flash and beep. I messed around with it a couple times going by the procedure in the book and it would not catch 4 Lo. It would go into 4h Fine but eventually struggled going back to 2H.

So I made an appointment with the dealer to have them look at it, in the meantime I continued to switch in and out of high, but that ended up getting it stuck in 4H.

Got an update yesterday the dealer I bought it at sent it over to Toyota and it mysteriously worked after about an hour. They are going to keep it until Monday and try to replicate the problem. I wanted them to try 4h at speed to see if anything occurred. It is still under warranty with 34K.

I've searched these forums and a lot of people have mentioned the actuators being the culprit, either the front diff or the transfer case.

    Thanks
    Jim in NH

Seriously, nice truck. Good luck with solving the problem. Could it be fluid levels?

    Welcome! Good looking MGM.

Sometimes getting into and out of 4Lo takes some finesse and patience, especially if it hasn't been used for a while. But at least it's under warranty if it needs a new actuator.

Are you engaging 4hi 1st, then 4lo, or going straight to 4lo?

Yup tried engaging 4H first then 4Lo.

    Crossing my fingers.

I drove it to the dealer like that trying to avoid sharp turns.

They called back it was an actuator problem, not sure which one. 90% sure it'll be covered under warranty. Whatever that means, might have to nudge them a little and honor the warranty.
