Yeah missed that. I keep mine sprayed down with wd-40 and have had them for 3 winters and they still look new. But i do live in cali but they have seen their fare share of snow and water no salt though.

That looks bad for any manufacturer. Pretty uncharacteristic for ADS coilovers. If it were me, I'd probably just rebuild them and have the bodies and rod ends nickel plated.

Screw that. That’s way more work then I have time for.

Well are you going to just trash them when they need a rebuild? I don't know if you wheel, but you can double down on the time by getting it done when you have them rebuilt. One of the nice things about having rebuildable shocks. Not quite sure on how much it costs but I would hope it'd be cheaper than buying all new coilovers and smoothies.

Oh yea. When they need rebuilding I’ll consider coating them. But I’m not taking them apart just so they don’t look terrible.

Shit, that looks terrible! I’m currently planning on buying ADS due to all I’ve heard about how well they hold up!

Anyone else have similar experiences? Or, alternative recommendations?

Yeah typically I've seen them hold up pretty good. I bought mine used after 30k from someone back east, and they have wear and tear yes, but they don't look like @jowybyo 's. I honestly wonder if ADS had a bad batch or maybe the company they use to source or coat the aluminum bodies had a bad batch? Unclear.

Yeah, I wouldn't take them apart now. A coating would probably hold up a lot better to the elements too. In the mean time, if you have access to a spring compressor you could buff them a bit and use a stronger oil to prevent greater damage.

Is your front hoses rubbing the coil? I see some wear marks...

It was for a little bit. I’ve since adjusted the hose.

Odd how just the ads shock components are corroded, but not the truck parts around it, even where there is wear. Was the same spray applicator ever used with anything else in it previously?

Yes. I put Fluid Film on my truck before every winter. The entire underside of the truck, inside the frame and all the suspension components get a treatment.

The bodies are steel, not Aluminum. They are zinc plated with clear cerakote. I have seen the cerakote react with some of the road salt differently, also, any type of purple cleaner can make the clear coat do weird stuff.

Mine look roughly the same, especially the rear shocks. Omaha just went through one of the worst winters, but I still would consider the salt mild compared to the northeast. A bit disappointing that it took one winter for them to look like this, but I plan on hopefully finding a solution for protection when it is time for a rebuild.

As a side note, I love the ride from these shocks. I would not go another route, I just wish the finish on these would have last a bit longer.

I would consider that as a defect or something because I am here in Colorado and we had a bunch of snow and we use that terrible liquid salt. Mine look nothing like that after this winter. They look almost the same as day one.
