Where I live they use a lot of these new types of high power salt solutions on the roads. I did some car washes during the winter but I am still concerned about rust. So yesterday I decided to do a post winter desalting and fluid filming.

I made in a spray bottle an around 10 percent solution of Salt Away concentrate. I sprayed it all under the hood and got it sprayed into the inside of the front fenders. I also got it all on the top of the frame and suspension parts, the underside of the hood, and the various things in front of the radiator.

I made up another bottle and sprayed all under the truck. I soaked the frame parts, sprayed the bottom of the floor, and the various iron parts. I sprayed up into the back fenders and all up in the rear under sheetmetal, frame and hitch parts. I used a total of three or four spray bottles of 10ish percent Salt Away.

I let it all soak for a little while then hosed it all off with a garden hose. I then drove through a car wash.

When I got home I soaked the underside using around one and two thirds cans of Fluid Film. I tried to get it into all the various cavities that I could spot. I sprayed it up into the inner sides of the front and rear fenders. I did spay a little bit up into the drain holes and latch holes of the tailgate. Using a rag I got all around the driveshafts. 20190409_182549.jpg

I totaled out a pair of old pants and a tee shirt. My truck smells like a wool coat or a sheep farm depending on the direction of the wind.

i'm not sure what part of the sheep that stuff comes from, but it's definitely a gagger.

Smart move. I bought new in November, used about eight cans of Fluid Film. Last weekend I power washed the entire underside, even removing the spare tire. Zero rust except in the spare tire gear that lowers and raises it because I missed it.

LOL. I don't think it smells like wet wool at all!

To me it reminds me more of cat litter box that is a couple days bast needing cleaned.

If someone wants an easy way to do a good rinse job under their vehicle, first rinse off all the bits like the gas tank top and such that you miss from the underside, then hook up an oscillating sprinkler and let it run for an hour or two under the vehicle moving it every 10 minutes or so.

This is actually a pretty good description of the smell. It also has an old dip cup aroma to it too in addition to the full litter box smell.

All I will say is I’ll never use this shit in my rocker and door panels ever again. When the summer heat is peak it gets terrible.
