So I am looking for geodes. My daughter loves to go rock hounding and recently we went with a friend to find some geodes, but were looking for some places maybe near bulldog canyon or Superior. I went to superior/globe when I was a kid in the 80's but have no idea where to start. Does anyone feel like PM'ing some places or possibly showing a Noob Tacoma/rockhounder around? TRD OR 4X4 stock.

hey mike - its been yeaaaaaaaaaaars since i went hunting for them, but i remember finding a geode bed around the Mogollon rim.

i would say call the local university geology dept for more precise locations or maybe a rock hound forum (if one actually exists).

I have a few leads on some places from rockhounding sites, but my hope was to find other Tacoma owners who know some trails off the beaten path. Trying to avoid the mini van crowd as much as possible. I have found that hiking in Bulldog Canyon is much more peaceful since there is like no one out there. I grew up around that area, but never really looked for geodes until now. I read a thread here, that mentioned a spot in Bulldog Canyon area, but with a stock OR, I am wondering if it is beyond the abilities of the vehicle. Either way, I am hoping that someone here knows some more spots nearby. Thanks for your input, I know most of it is trial and error and never telling anyone where you go, but I have only a few hours each week to devote and would rather keep my kid interested because we find something each time.

understood - note, just because a trail is stock OR friendly today, doesn't mean after the next rain it will continue to be.

you will be surprised of the stock OR's capabilities, just have to choose your line more carefully, unless you plan on rock crawling - then all bets are off.

I have been surprised already. I don't do much wheeling, but realized quickly that this vehicle is far beyond my abilities.

I found some small ones in this area before. I'm not knowledgeable in geology so I can't tell you the type. It's also a great place to camp in the summer and easy drive in you Tacoma.

There is a couple of areas around Tucson, one is out side of Benson called Jacksons cabin. There is a natural arch getting there that has Geodes. There is also one heading west out side Whetstone off of 82. You have to go through a cattle gate but there are some nice ones out there.
