I've seen very few of these setups, but I'd like to buy a set of cross bars that I could use to mount a cargo box over my bed with - 8"ish high maybe? Looking for a way to easily store some gear and also be able to remove it when needed. I really like the RCI bedrack but I dont think the spacing would work [and cross bars would hopefully be cheaper]. Would be nice if they had some tabs on them to mount maxxtraxx or a highlift or something as well.

    Suggestions?

I have the Voodoo Hi-Rise Cross Bars on mine - they would probably suit your needs just fine based on what you mentioned. The brackets attach to the existing bed rails by two nuts/bolts (each bracket), but you can remove the actual cross bars much easier if you just need the extra room in the bed. I actually have a brand new set of brackets and one single cross bar that I ended up not using, so I could sell it to you and you could pick up another set from Voodoo directly. Let me know.

Probably not as high as you want, Yakima mounts and bars w/ Rhino Rack. Rotopax added since then. Comes off in 2 minutes w/ 2 people.IMG_2996.jpg

Thanks for the pics! This is along the lines of what I am looking for just hoping for something a bit taller.

The mobtown ones are about the height I am thinking - but it doesnt appear they are making them anymore [not on their website]

I think all the major fabricators make a set. I have the CBI overland bars on my truck:

I guess there is no way to get a rack that solves all percieved problems. I want to support a RTT below the cab to minnimize wind drag but I want to carry a canoe and I would like to pack bikes in the bed under the RTT.
I like the fact that roof nest folds up to 3" thick and has a hard sruface but it is too long to hold below cab height.
What is the effect of a tarp covered RTT on gas mileage? Is it less that the effect of a thin hard surface held above the cab?
What is the best a 3 man RTT that that is less than 74" long?

I have been looking at a "Up Top Truss" bed rack. About the same price as Yakima without side bars but easier to install and appears to be more versatile
