I'd like to try and get a lot of my initial questions into one thread, as well as get the post subject to include key search terms so it's easy for others to find.

Anyway, that being said, here are my questions:

    1. Tips on hauling various items in the truck bed. I have the rails on the sides of the bed, but am not that experienced with moving various things in the bed of a truck. Usually the times when I have helped my sister and her husband with their truck, they've had a cargo net that kinda blankets everything. What I'm looking for is tips and info on hauling 4 x 8 sheets of plywood, which, obviously, do not fit in the bed of the truck length-wise.
Is there a safe way to secure plywood sheets so they do not fly out of the vehicle?

    2. Speedometer vs. rims. My previous car was an Eclipse, and at one point I was thinking of changing the rims on it. I was informed, however, that a change in rims or tires that affected the overall diameter of the wheels would cause problems with the computer, as it would be getting errant speed readings. Does the same apply with the Tacoma, and how hard/expensive is it to change to larger tires? (not thinking huge, but some standard off road tires and nicer-than-stock rims would look better).

    3. Are there any engine/performance, or other modifications that are low cost which most Tacoma owners have found to be "must haves" or modifications that just make things go smoother (even if it's just an interior mod).

    4. Is it possible to get rid of the beeping sound the vehicle makes when you lock/unlock the doors?

Thanks. I have some other questions, but they are easily put in the forum sections that are specific to them (i.e. intake modifications).

    Thanks!

There are notches in your bed that you can cut 2x6's and fit them in. That way the plywood/drywall/whatever will sit level above the fenderwells.

I usually just haul it in there at an angle.

GET YOURSELF SOME RATCHET STRAPS!!! Best investment you can make for hauling stuff. Get a bucket of bungee cords as well. Keep them behind the seats or in the bed compartments in your bed.

I'll link some pages in a min you can look into as well..

    EDIT:

Extra D Rings in the bed.

Cargo net Harbor freight used to have a truck bed extender, but it looks like they dont carry it anymore...Here is another link...Im sure you can find one cheaper...But you get the idea.

    EDIT AGAIN:

Oh yeah, and to answer question 4. There is a way on the trucks with the security system i think...Not with the regular keyfob though...I dont think mine ever beeped to begin with...I have an 08....Not sure what you have...

    ONE MORE TIME:

Here ya go...Door lock beep on/off

    Thank you!

    I appreciate the info.

I've somehow managed to miss the sticky at the top of the thread list. I'll bet it has answers as well.

Again, thanks. The ability to turn the beeping door lock off is going to be nice!

I'll second that D-ring mod. It makes securing things in the bed much much easier! The rail system is nice but I wouldn't trust it for heavier loads.

    2. Its the same in all vehicles. Your options are regearing the differential or altering the speedometer callibration. In the Tacoma this is done electronically and there are kits you can purchase to alter the signal sent to the odometer. Its a part you wire in and not just a comupter reprogram like other cars. In some older cars you swap mechanical speedo gears somwhere. You can make ANY vehicle have accurate speedo with wrong sized tires... you just need to recalibrate somehow.

    3. Get Weathertech floor liners in a group buy.

The procedures I've seen for door lock beep control do not work on later models.

People have removed the beeper module under the hood to silence it. I wanted to quiet it down, so I used a foam ear protector plug (the kind you roll up and let it expand in your ear). I rolled it up, stuck it in the beeper module's output hole, and instantly muted the beep down to something a little less shrill.

Do the easy fix .... under the hood in front of the battery (2010) is the "beeper" .... unplug it .... works like a champ.

And please don't say that you can't find the 'beeper" ... just press the key fob.
