Just bought a new 2019 I-4 tacoma and will be doing some light towing [1000-1500 lbs] not mountainous. Do I need a transmission cooler? I live in Minnesota/Wisconsin area.

I agree. Good if you have it but for your situation it's not really needed.

You are fine with the factory setup, especially in the Midwest

A cooler won’t do much good considering the thermostat closes at 195*F and doesn’t reopen until about 205*F.

You’re better off pinning the thermostat while you tow. You’ll see much lower temps.

I would always recommend a trans cooler if you are going to tow, also highly recommend a device to read the trans temp. Just because you have a cooler doesn't mean you cant overheat the transmission.

Transmission has nothing to do with the thermostat in your engine cooling system?? o_O

    Need? Maybe not.

Good idea? Sure. Can't hurt anything but your wallet.

Ok. Go do some research on the 3rd gen transmissions.

Just noticed OP has a 4cyl, not sure if they use the same trans as the V6’s or not.

I strongly believe it is the same Aisin trans.

If you have the hitch already doesn’t it come with a cooler anyway?

Anyone with a 3rd gen with the 4 cylinder and the 6 speed Auto Trans found the Torque Pro App PIDs that will read the Trans Temps?
