2020 TRD Pro Wheel Reps

Hey guys,

The company I work for manufactures replica wheels for various OE factory wheels and they're looking to offer a replica of the 2020 TRD Pro wheel but unsure of what specs and finishes to offer them in. I figured I'd reach out to the TW community to see what you guys think. My initial thought is to offer them in a 16x7, 17x8 and 18x8. I'm unsure about offsets but figured you guys could chime in on that. Available finishes would most likely be gloss black, matte black, matte gunmetal and matte bronze. Might even offer a gloss black machined face depending on initial response. What do you guys think?

Not everyone finds replica wheels acceptable and that's totally understandable. In my opinion, I think they meet the need of people who want the OEM look but can't afford it or don't want to spend so much. Of course as long as they're aware that the wheels are replicas and in no means are genuine parts then i believe it's up to them if they want to buy them.

 

17x7 and same specs as the TRD Pro 4Runner wheels.

 

If they can make them lighter than factory, Im all for it. FN wheels does a good job with that, makes them better, improves on the design. But yeah I get the don't copy me thing. When you consider wheel design, there are classic designs that have been copied to some extent over and over again. There is just something about hammers or 5 star wheels that work on a lot of different cars. At least the source of these are being cited as opposed to not giving credit due, like a term paper. So not exactly plagiarism... But yeah get your point.

 

Will they be lighter? If you can determine the proper offset for 0", 2", and 3" of lift so they don't rub would be great. Maybe offer two different offsets for each.... Stoked to see these in bronze!

 

The 2020 TRD Pro wheels are forged, so prepare to pay $2000-3000 for a set. If you want a set you don't mind scratching off road, or in other sizes, get knock offs.

@Johnny77 a popular size is 16x8 0mm offset. This will fit 285-wide 33" tires. Suggest adding a lip around the rim to protect the spokes from scratches. Check out the FN Konig Countersteer for what I mean.

 

They do offer a "Flow Forged" series of replicas for sports cars which are usually much lighter than OEM. Might consider adding these to the series if it makes sense. 100% agree with the offset suggestions, chances are there will be two offsets per size - one for stock and one for lifted.

 

16x8, 17x8.5

Replicas are a great option for those who want an OEM looking wheel, but with better offset, or wider width. Keep the competition coming, thats the beauty of a competitive market

 

The "Flow Forged" series my company offers are a lot cheaper than $2-$3k I can say that much.

Appreciate the feedback, good point about the 16x8 as it would help accommodate those that want a wider tire. I'll be sure to take a look at the FN Konig to see what you mean about the lip.

 

Same or similar design with it being lighter would be the key. 19-22lbs range depending on size as well as cost, warranty, and customer service to back it up and that would make it highly competitive with other vendors here.

Very true, most of the people interested in replicas usually want a slight variation in wheel spec or finish which aren't offered from the original manufacturer. Not to mention often times most OEM parts are way overpriced to begin with.

 

Forget 18x8, very few use 18” on Tacoma’s. It’s all 16s and 17s and a few 20s. The offset of the pro wheel is different to the other wheels by 0.5”, I’d personally stick to that offset for the 16” wheels. Make sure the oem centercaps fit and they are hub centric and you’ll be onto a winner, especially if you get them out before Toyota does.

 

Might as well just sell knock-off Tacomas. Heck.....build the whole truck in China for cheap. A great option for sure.

Interesting. I initially thought 18" would be more popular with lifted Tacomas versus 20". Wheels will of course be made to fit OEM center caps and will be hub centric.

 

Great feedback! Hard to give exact weights as of now but our last series of Flow Forged wheels were in that ballpark range.

 

16 and 17 are most popular. Make sure the 16's have enough caliper clearance as it's already tight enough with wheel weights stuck on. Lot's of tire manufacturers are mostly focusing on 17"+ now as well.
