I did the Seafoam through the brake hose vacuum line on my old 93 Z28 that was supercharged and it cleaned it out really well. The engine only had 45K miles on it and it still did a good cleaning. Seafoam does not damage the cats, all the carbon buildup breaking loose might do that damage but I've never had a problem. The Tacoma is not built any better than the average car/truck so if you have carbon buildup, it should really be cleaned out no matter how you decide to do it. I do think that harsh chemicals running through the fuel injectors could possibly lead to damage to the injectors so don't overdo what you put in your tank. If your engine is already burning oil which leads to the carbon buildup then you're on borrowed time anyway.

I did this in my truck recently with about 2/3 of the can. I let it sit for about 30 minutes afterwards then started it up and drove it around for about 20 more minutes. It smoked like crazy burning off some of that stuff. I feel like it runs better now and I had no negative effects from doing this.

No, the carbon build up is a function of crank case ventilation which gets piped back into the air intake and also combustion in general.
Burning oil is from blow by at the piston rings.
Seafoam is good for carburetor engines and farm equipment fuel stabilization.
I wouldn’t run this through the intake to clean the manifold, valves and pistons. Distilled water is almost free and less harmful and will do the same.
For fuel and injector cleaning is get stuff like BG44K like what someone here posted some great actual results of.
I’m on the fence about putting seafoam in the crank case a couple hundred miles before an oil change. Should probably drop lower oil pan first and make sure there’s sludge in it though otherwise there’s no reward for the risk

That’s what I thought when I did that in my old Jeep. It made it idle better and but dyno was happy too (it always wants to be after money and time spent). Couple weeks later one of the cats went out...

I also ran about 5oz in the engine oil for about 5 miles before changing the oil as well. I’ve been meaning to swap out the spark plugs since running into the mani. I may have fouled one or two of them since I had a few misfire codes that came up while it was smoking. None of those codes has returned since.

Around 120k I used Seafoam with no problems. Sucked a little in through through the booster line, I think it stalled. Dumped the rest in the gas tank. Let it sit 20 mins. Drove it 20 miles and it smoked a lot. It felt smoother when accelerating and it idled smoother. I'm at 215k now and still on the original cat. I was about to do it again.

Sucking in a little water will work as well. It really cleans the cylinders. That's why cylinders are so clean after a head gasket leaks.

I have been running it in my 94 land cruiser for years. I run it in the oil a few days before I change it, and maybe once a year I run it though the vacuum hoses. When I took the engine apart to replace some components the inside of the engine looked extremely clean with very little carbon build up and she has approximately 330,000 miles and still runs strong. I have only run sea foam in the oil on my Tacoma a few days before the oil change. I’d consider using the fogger in the future.

Amsoils powerfoam does a great job at cleaning up carbon. Although I’ve never done it to the Tacoma. I did do it to my lawnmower.

So, 10 cans to the fuel tank -or- through a vacuum hose?

4 through the brake booster vaccum line, the rest either through the tank or direct to oil via fill spout.

The old sea foam trick. Been doing it for years. Love the smoke show that ensues haha

I mixed ATF and water 50/50 in a spray bottle and set the idle about 1500,sprayed into the TB in my Jeep. Smoothed out the idle. I do it every few years.

Tacos have an electric throttle with no IACV so It won’t have that effect and I’m not sure why you would spray ATF into your TB to begin with

How much Distilled water are you adding? I've done seafoam on older vehicles but none on the tacoma. Curious to try water and see what that does.

Depends how you apply it, i don’t like the vacuum booster method because of the hydro lock risk. Spray bottle to throttle body is safer IMHO, maybe 4oz...
