Had anyone left their brass tire deflators in while driving on the beach. Wife just got me a set and they work well, but a little slow. Figured I could leave them on while driving slow for a few mins until they deflated. Just worried about sand getting into them. Thoughts?

Just take the time to air down.... no need to rush.

Make sure that you pull the core fully out with the screw type tire deflators. I made this mistake and didn't realize it.... was taking twice as long to air down.

I have never heard of taking out the core with brass deflators. That would be a lot of work and defeats the purpose. I want to be able to screw them on not have to tend it. Otherwise, I would just take the core out and deflate

    ***Update***
Ok, the whole reason for this thread was because when I first used the deflators, they were REALLY slow. I figured out that the plunger wasn't coming up all the way. I used some WD-40 and they work perfect now. I deflated from 32 to 15 in about 3 minutes. Checked my PSI afterwards and it was within 1 psi of what I wanted. Perfect!

This is the same problem I had. Its deceiving because you may not pull it all the way back and fully pull the core out. It only lets air out at about half the rate this way. Found this one out the hard way as well.

OP is talking about a different kind of deflater than this.

He is talking about a rapid deflator when you screw the core out and had a gauge. I was wondering what he was talking about...lol.

If you don't like the tire deflators, I have found a much better and easier option is to use a set of these:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078WVQL31/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They are meant for filling tires. But if you leave the hose off you can just clip them on and they will open the valve. Its cheap and fast. If you buy a pack of two you can do two tires at once. Doing all 4 tires at once gets a little hectic, ask me how I know :)

Those are pretty cool, but yes, I love my deflators. I went out on the beach the other day and they deflated great!

If you're going to sit there and babysit your tires (you can't just leave those alone), you might as well get the ARB style that removes the core and get the job done in 1/4 the time.

    or

I would buy 2 more of those, and rig up a 4-way hose system so you could inflate them all at once, or, of you get crafty with a pressure gauge, deflate them all at once, too.

Yeah I definitely don't want to have to sit there and keep track of the psi as it goes down. That's why I love my deflators
