Saw some forged 1/4 inch spacers on Ebay for $60. Will these leave enough tread on the lugs to be safe. Have TRD Sport and considering wider tires. Don't want any rubbing on upper control arm.

Don't trust them. The only acceptable spacers are the hub-centric spacers that attach to the hub and then have new studs for the wheels. Spidertrax are fairly well regarded.

Toyota wheels are hub-centric and messing with this will cause issues.

Hard to believe a 1/4 inch aluminum spacer would affect balance of hub.

There’s a centering ring on the hub that makes it a hubcentric application, that ring sticks out about 1/4” more or less. By adding the 1/4” spacer you would basically be even with the ring on the hub...essentially making it a lug centric application. NOT GOOD

1-1/4” and up hubcentric spacers have that centering ring built in like Spidertrax and Bora

It's all in the lugnuts. Most manufacturers use a self-centering design via a tapered seat. This are the regular lugnuts most think of and they serve both the purpose of centering the wheel around the hub and holding the wheel to the hub. Toyota uses a different design where the wheel fits tightly to the center lip of the job and the lugnuts only serve the purpose of holding the wheel to the hub.

The problem in this case is that it's phyically impossible for a 1/4" spacer to be anything but a flat disc and remain hub-centric because there's just not enough material. All it would do is lift a wheel away from the hub that centers the wheel and puts that stress on lugnugs not designed for that job.
