AUX Cable wired to CD Changer?

I know related questions and tutorials have been posted several times, but can't quite find the exact information I'm looking for. I have the A56409 in my 1999 tacoma, but without a CD changer.

It seems to me that there should be some inputs for the CD on one of the connections on the back, but I can't seem to find the exact pinout.

Here's what we have, the A56409.

Additionally, even if i find the right pins, will the amount of power coming from a phone suffice or would it need some kind of pre-amplification?

Any knowledge of a pinout or advice?

Why not just swap for an aftermarket stereo? They’re cheap and easy to install.

Much better sound quality than if you use one of those interface kits too.

 

That's a fair question. I'm sure this isn't the route most folks would go.

I really can't complain about the current stereo other than the lack of AUX. I like the original look and feel, don't want it to look like something worth breaking a window for. I don't particularly want to throw something that's perfectly good out. The project just sounds like fun. And save a little cash.

 

They make interface kits for that, can't remember who makes them.

Wish I could find the pinout, as I just want to wire a female 3.5mm port down by the cigarette lighter ports.

I've seen someone actually solder wires directly to the audio input points on the motherboard for the radio, there's a thread here somewhere.

 

Yeah, I found that as well, but for a different receiver. Interestingly, it looks like these guys did exactly what I want to do... but of course they have no real reason to tell me how they did it.

Gee, $145 is a lot of money. That's almost how much my really nice Kenwood double DIN touchscreen radio head cost.

In my opinion, I think you should just get a modern headunit. I have a fake cover over mine since I live in San Francisco and people will shatter windows over 17 cents, a tissue, and a used gum wrapper in the cupholder.

 

You're probably right. I might take a crack with the soldering iron when I take it out, but if it doesn't work, just splurge on a new head unit.

Get a modern head unit, then just lay some wires hanging out of the faceplate so it looks like it's all jacked up and doesn't work.


With my old 86 4Runner, I had a "modern" (back then it was modern, lol) CD player. I took the stock faceplate and glued all the buttons and volume knob to it so it fit over the aftermarket deck. It worked okay.

For my 2004 Tacoma I have a Kenwood deck, also pretty ancient technology at this point (it plays mp3 CDs!), but I did get an adapter to use with the CD changer port to fit a 3.5mm jack input.

 

How does it stay in place though?

You're likely not driving with it , so really, it could just sit there. But yeah, I was thinking either a suction cup or a friction pad of some kind.

 

On my truck I cut two CD's in half and epoxied them to where I would insert CD's into the radio. Holds better than the suction cup.

 

So you have 4 layers of CDs? No wonder it holds tight. Or do you mean you cut 1 CD, lol.

The problem I had with these things is I never new what to do with the fake face-plate when I was driving. I ended up just not using the one I made for my 4Runner. Throw it on the passenger seat unless you have a passenger, wouldn't fit in the glove box, didn't want to just toss in on the floor, etc...

Shear laziness I know...

Hell, I don't think I've taken the removable face off my Kenwood in at least a decade (at least on purpose, lol). We were on a road trip and my wife hit the button and it popped off and thought she broke it. Guess I could'a gotten a new deck out of it, but that would have meant silence for the rest of the 2400 mile trip, lol...
