For the better of about 3 years of slowly gathering all the components needed to update the tech inside my '06, I finally begun/finished said project last week. Took about 6 days of taking everything out of the cab, deadening installation, running wires, connecting wires, trouble shooting and tuning the setup...and then putting everything back together again. But it was all well worth it. My '06 now has AppleCarPlay, a rear view camera (which I can turn on at anytime), hands free calling/texting, navigation, additional vehicle performance gauges and an amazing sound system and HU. Some specs on the install:

HU: Alpine Ilx-107 (with iDataLink Maestro connection)
    Front Speakers: Focal PS 165fx
    Rear Speakers: Focal PC 165F
    Subwoofer: JL 10tw1-4
    Amplifier: Alpine mrv-250

The subwoofer box and the speaker adaptors were made by me. I took a 3rd generation microphone cover and fitted the Alpine's microphone into it, and installed it into the headliner (so it looks OEM). I also bought a 2015 Tacoma Tailgate handle, and purchased a rearview camera to fit in said handle to appear OEM.

If anyone who comes across this, and is looking to do something similar and has any questions (on installation, on tuning [crossover settings, EQ settings, using a RTA, using a Distortion meter, setting amp gains, setting time delays] etc) please feel free to ask away. Not only did it take 3 years to gather all the components I wanted (im a college student at the moment so had to spread the cost across), but also countless of hours were researched in what was required to put this all together and make it perform well.

Wow...you certainly went to town on that interior. I'm assuming you got some pretty decent reduction in road and wind noise. Any trouble with pulling and re-installing the interior panels? I'd love to deaden my Tacoma but that looks intense. I'm debating on upgrading my truck...currently bone stock but the 2010 HU and system lacks some of the tech I've gotten used to. Debating on the easy way out with the OEM+ gear or going in the direction you went. Great job.

Tearing down the interior; taking the seats out, the rear storage, the carpet, the pillars, and head liner really isnt difficult at all. There are many step by step details on this site to show you how to do each. The biggest pain in the A$$ was installing all of the sound deadening...it was so tedious (not difficult, just monotonous) . The fun part was the wiring and hardware, making the speaker adaptors etc.
I bought the truck new in '06, and plan on keeping it forever, so I didnt mind going over board with the installation. The only panel that is pain to get out is the Lower center dash (I updated mine from the '06 Lower center dash to the '15 dash). Other than that...it's pretty easy straight forward.
I'd like to think of myself as a pretty strict amateur audiophile, so I needed to hear the speakers/subwoofer before buying them (all in all I think I listened to 12-15 different speakers :p). But the OEM+ seems like quality material; I just havent heard it yet in person.

I've done systems in almost every car/truck I've owned to one level or another. Some have been simple...some over the top. I always do my own work. My '10 Tacoma only has 13000 miles and I just picked it up a couple weeks ago so I'm reluctant to tear it apart. The stock system is tolerable but not sure how long I want to tolerate it. I'm with you on auditioning tho...always like to hear things before I buy. Its easy to get caught in the speaker hype and get disappointed with the results.

Give it time, when I first got my Taco I wanted to keep everything stock...then slowly I started to learn not everything that comes with the truck is the bees knees. A lot of things on the truck can be enhanced better (and cheaper) using aftermarket components :)

** if youve done all your own work on all your vehicles then youre more than qualified to an install similar to this

WHat brand of sound deadener did you go with? How much did you need and would you recommend it?

I went with Noico 80 mil butyl, and Noico 170 mil sound insulation foam for the doors, floor and the back; and just did butyl on the ceiling. And yes would definitely recommend it. But it too about 5 days to sound deaden everything, its pretty tedious and boring. So you gotta really want it lol

Yes it comes with predrilled holes. I was able to utilize a few of them, but had to make some of my own. I don’t know if they would make a shelf without the holes; they may, might be worth asking if they would.

Fuel level no (or at least I haven’t seen an option for fuel level)
