    Hey All,

New member here from NYC. I've been reading content on TW long enough, figured it was time I sign up for an account! My fiance and I have lived in NYC for the past 10 years and are moving back home to be closer to family/buy a home. Didn't make sense to pay $800/month in parking in the city, so I got rid of my first vehicle when I moved in 2010; A 2000 PreRunner 2.7L single cab in millennium silver (miss that color!).

Although TINY, the truck was insanely reliable: oil changes, battery, rotations and a 100K mile service for fluids, flushes, etc. Never broke down, although did get it stuck with plenty of times with the 1WD limited slip! I bought the truck in 2006 for $7,500 with 73,000 miles and sold it in the spring of 2010 for $6,500 and ~110,000 miles.

Was traveling a few weeks ago and found myself free on a saturday afternoon, I popped into a dealership and test drove the Off-Road DC and fell in love with it. Since then, I have been voraciously reading about the OR's, possible mods, reliability and the like. Our move is sometime between August and October, cannot wait to get into another Tacoma after all this time!

Welcome to TW! I have a DCLB and I absolutely love it. I cant imagine having one up in NYC with how tight parking can be. Where are you moving to? and how do you plan to use it?

Thanks man, happy to be here! Couldn't imagine having one in the city either, Isee a few SR work/construction trucks from time to time but that is it! Moving back home to Saint Petersburg, FL outside of Tampa. The truck will be my daily driver, but I certainly plan to do some trails in central Florida and would love to do a trip out west to some trails with elevation. Otherwise, we have a pretty big home reno planned so lots of trips to Home Depot :bananadance:

I am stuck between the SB and LB debate. Other than carrying capacity, any benefits?

I didnt want a SB because I wanted to be able to hold more stuff in the back when doing trips to home depot like you said, but also chose a LB because I wanted to camp out of it. So I think benefits over which to choose is based on how you are using it. There are plenty of heated comments on threads on which is best :D

I will be sure to research these heated threads! My memory fails me...but I am almost certain my 2000 PreRunner single cab had a short bed. Most of what I did, including the obligatory friend moves, I managed just fine with the SB. Given the reno, I am sure I will be investing in a trailer for hauling not too long after the truck is purchased.

I had a SB, and always had to get creative when moving even somewhat packed loads. If you plan on using the truck as a truck, I can only reccomend long bed. I have a DCLB now and could never go back .

Besides the functionality, I also personally think the perportions of the truck look much better than the DCSB

Admiral, I totally agree with you on the proportions aspect...my only concern there becomes the decrease in performance off road, i.e, breakover angle.

If you plan on using the truck to go over hills/rock crawl, then yes it will hurt performance. It would technically help going up and down inclines, but if you have tight peaks youre gonna go over then maybe consider a short bed. If I needed a shorter truck I'd go with an access cab instead of the short bed, which would also save you a good chunk of change, depending on if you 'need' full size back seats

Definitely going to need the DC, sister had twins in September, even before that had a big ol' family! :)

Welcome! A bed extender is a lifesaver if you get the SB.
