Help with deck plate mod for my 2.7 03

Hey guys everybody is talking about doing this to their trucks. I have a 03 2.7 my air filter lays flat in the box not vertical. I already have a k&n filter but need some advice on how or even to proceed with this project. I'm new to the forum sorry for repeat questions. I can't find any pics of it done to a 2.7. Thanks for your help.

 

Really what my question was from what Ive seen the mod is below the filter will I just not suck crap into my intake that way? Seems like I would be totally bypass the airfilter.
