Aisin made the trans. Toyota has a 20% or so stake in Aisin.

That’s not completely true. While most may not have a lot of experience working on transmissions some guys have taken many classes and are more than capable of rebuilding them. However in most cases it’s just cheaper and more cost effective/time saving for a reman to be sent out and the core to be sent in for repair.

Curious about your extended warranty , 3rd party , or which individual Toyota warranty ?

I feel bad for the guy. He got a lemon. That sucks. My blood would be boiling. But saying "so much for Toyota reliability" is pure hyperbole. I guarantee that with every generation of Toyota automobiles, there have been lemons produced. Never mind Toyota, any automaker. Perfection is impossible. Just because we haven't seen it posted on TacomaWorld doesn't mean it hasn't happened. I've heard horror stories like this about every model auto I've ever owned.

oh 100%. however if transmissions were failing early, we would definitely see it here.

The real concern I have is increasing number of bad injectors Ive seen. Ive only been here since january and have seen 5 - 7 injector replacement posts. All under 100k.

    Wrong!

Seems to me a number of years ago, Toyota had to buy back a bunch of trucks due to rusted out frames! So there are a lot of those Toyotas made before 2016 that aren't on the road these days! :annoyed:

    ^^^Lies!

Haha....hopefully you caught my sarcasm. Toyota Tacomas have always, I mean always, had their gremlins. Anyone whose front wheels collapsed on their 1st Gen Taco can attest to this.

There was no “golden age of the Tacoma”

I miss the good old days, where the bad part was an airbag that killed you, so you could not complain on the internet.

I went back 6 different times telling them to check it again and check it manually. It also turns out that someone *at a Toyota dealership I’ve never taken my truck to* logged my truck at 145k miles, causing my warranty to show inactive. This was why they kept telling me they wouldn’t take another look at it prior to a few days ago. I won’t blame Toyota 100% for something like this, but dealers should listen to their customers more. I am glad that they are “standing by their product” in the sense that they are honoring the extended warranty that I paid ~$3k for

Definitely could have checked myself. But between time (excuse) and not wanting to screw something up, I thought it would be best left to the professionals. Should’ve known better. This is the same dealership that tried to convince me that there were no lubrication points on the 4WD draft until I showed them where the zerks were. (I only knew these existed myself because of tacomaworld)

Aisin makes trans for more than just Yota although Yota is the prime recipient of Aisin trans. I don't believe Yota currently uses anything but Aisin.

According to Scotty Kilmers vid, some of the heavier Full Size domestic trucks are moving from Allison to Aisin as well.

The only one aware of is the RAM 1 ton w/Cummins. The trans in that one is Aisin. There very well could be more, I'm just not aware of them.

The Tacoma's are not having trans reliability problems, auto or manual. This gentleman had ONE fail. A few out of hundreds of thousands is not a trend.
