Yea figuring out the wheel widths and offsets are what we're hoping to get from this thread. Not to mention any highly desired finishes.

There are 2-3 Chinese companies making 1st-gen and pre-Taco knockoffs. God help TW if one of them is sold here:

Put some knock-off Pro wheels and a knock off Pro Grille on it, throw it in a shipping container and sell it stateside for $60k.

Too easy! Like, competition is good for the market right?

Counterfeit watches, apparel, smartphones, cars, the list never ends. There are plenty of consumers for this market, otherwise they wouldn't exist.

Appreciate the suggestion! 18x9 would definitely make those rocking wider tires happy

    LS1 swap with nitros.
I have a set of bronze FN Fx wheels. Not a color from Toyota and I liked the stule and color with white. Truck never sees off-road so no need for forged wheels. I’m happy and more competition for the world isn’t a bad thing. It breeds development and improvements.

I guess the thing I struggle with is this (purely from an ethical/philosophical standpoint......I have no skin in this game, but find it interesting to consider):

For example: say you spend hours upon hours of time, designing and perfecting some manufactured item, whatever it is, that everyone subsequently really likes and wants, so you sell a lot of them. Next day you look over and your neighbour is copying your exact design, and selling it for a lot cheaper, without having to recoup the cost of developing the thing in the first place, or having the talent to create such an item from scratch.

Is that really competition, or just foul play? I don’t quite know, but would argue the competition that drives innovation is when creative individuals develop and market their own original designs. :notsure:

It's ok though... because Toyota is a big faceless company.

So for anyone who, like me, is interested by this idea of knock-off wheels, here is a very interesting video from John Cardogan. For those who take the time to watch it, it has a surprise twist in that it is not a rant against aftermarket rims. Far from it actually. The point John makes is the real need for safety approval of aftermarket rims, as can be obtained across the modern world.

We’ve all seen the mark on our OEM wheels of “JWL”, which is a Japanese approval. The factory Toyota wheels may also have other approvals.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/JWL_standard

My question to OP. Will these imitation wheels be approved for use on North American roads, and if so, by which approval bodies?

Just in case it didnt come across as such, I was being sarcastic.

I'd much rather see companies innovate rather than copy.

It's easy for people to accept ripping off ideas/intellectual property from big companies like Toyota. But then get severely bent out of shape if it were to happen to @SCSPerformance or @mesojdm . However, it's the exact same thing. Toyota is just better positioned to absorb the hit financially.
