Hey Cory, were you wanting a TRD intake for your 3rd gen. I may be letting mine go, as I am not sure if it will work with my Dobinsons snorkel. Or at least they say it won’t work with the supplied tubing.

 

Hey anyone got an air compressor that doesn't take 10 years to inflate a tire? Need one before I leave for my trip and figured I'd check here. Or any recommendations that are not $200.

 

I have a 12v Husky inflator from HD. I think it took about 15 minutes to inflate my 32" tires from 18 to 32psi. It's been a minute since I used it, so don't quote me on that. However, for around $20-25, it's good to have in the truck just in case. However, 15 minutes per tire is an hour, and that might equate to 10 years. It may have been more like 7 minutes per tire, which would be like 15 minutes per side....I really can't remember. I don't remember it taking an hour to fill up all 4 tires. I'm going to go with 7 minutes per tire.

...I'm clearly not much help. I just know I wasn't disappointed.

If you buy an ARB locker, they'll give you a free compressor through the end of the month!

 

Thought it's Smittybilt I really like my 5.56 CFM compressor I got on sale for $80. VIAIR has similar ones.

@CowboyTaco the one I have is about 15min a tire and it's really killing me. And I suspect I'll be airing up a lot in the next 6 months. And I already have a locker! But I really appreciate your help!

I believe that’s the same one I’m running. It’s decent for the price and does the job till I can get a legit on board air setup one day.

 

How do you feel about having an aux tank? That is the quickest way to air up. I believe Viair also makes an elongated one with multiple outlets.

 

5.65 CFM is no joke. I have an 8gal compressor in the garage that puts out 4 CFM.

Sure anytime I also have a C02 tank it air tires in no time

 

X2 This is the ticket. Wanna inflate quickly, ya need a tank. I would roll with a ViAir and a Tank.

 

Third on this guy. I’ve got it and for the price it has exceeded my expectations. I’m only running 265/70-16’s but I can have them all filled up from 12psi-32psi in ~15 mins.

 

Yes, you do.

There are a couple of options though. Your intended use will dictate which is best for you.

"I'm going out for the day and only need to fill up my tires once." - If you do this 2-3 times a year. Just keep truckin' with the crappy compressor you have now and enjoy a few beers while it airs up. Just don't drink and drive.

"I'm going out for the day and only need to fill up my tires once.....every weekend." Maybe invest in the portable tanks from Harbor Freight. I think they are like $35 and you can fill them up at home.

Another option would be to get a tank filled with Nitrogen. IIRC, they take less time to fill up tires and will last longer. Something about the molecules compress better. One of the 1st gen guys out west use this setup. I'll throw a couple of tags to see if I guess the right person(s). @Blackdawg @m3bassman. If not one of those two, I think @turbodb will know. Hopefully one of them can give a quick and dirty explanation.

"I'm going on an expedition and will change from dirt to pavement repeatedly and therefore will need to inflate my tires constantly." - onboard air with aux tank.

*Disclaimer, the knowledge above is all from web-wheeling. The few times that I've actually gone on a trip with a good mix of off-road driving and camping, everyone used the crappy inflators that took 10 years. I trust that any of the gents tagged above will be able to provide real-world insight.

 

Nice write up! that last one is going to be me. @Built2Ride, since you know about this stuff and can explain to me as well and i will see you this weekend camping, let's talk and maybe see where i would mount this.

 

@rkam65 Spunds good, but for your needs you are going to wanna got ViAir with the tank.
The other options mentioned are very convenient and are used IMO a luxury way to inflate. Your trip is going to require redundancy, so really you need the one above and keep your cheaper slower one as well. Ya need two if your going out on such a long adventure.

Air, Water and Gas will get you far. Get caught without one of these...gets funky fast.
