I see this on all 2016 and newer Tacos. Is this Standard, or a option dealers just seem to do in my area . Is there a 12 converter that isolates the truck charging system from the trailer lights ?

Is there a wiring diagram somewhere I can see ? (google stock image )

I can't keep track of what is standard and what isnt, (and how it varies in area vs area) so don't hold me to this definitely.
And it has also changed from year to year I believe as to what is standard with what package.
(I think it is standard on the V6 now? maybe)
Generally, it is part of the Tow Package, which also includes the Automatic Tranny cooler, etc.
If you have the VIN, you should be able to check here
    https://www.toyota.com/owners/my-vehicle/vehicle-specification

For the schematic, see attachment to this post
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ing-lights-only-working.514897/#post-16246742

The discussion below is ONLY for Tow package installation.

You will note, when installed from the factory, the 4pin/7pin connector is supplied 12V with dedicated 40 amp fuse for trailer battery charging when ignition on.
Tail/running lights are also thru a dedicated relay controlled by the ECU.
Trailer Brake power is controlled the the towing brake controller (aftermarket to be installed by customer). Connector for it (on tow package) lives in the LH dash.

The trailer Turn/Stop (LH and RH) lights are controlled by the combination meter ECU.
In my experience, the combination meter controls the LH and RH Turn/Stop trailer lights in conjunction with the truck Turn/Stop signals, but on a separate circuit. Load on the trailer connector for Stop/Turn does not influence trucks signals hyperflashing. A short in the trailer Turn/Stop circuit does not seem to take out the truck signals, (but I don't recall if it causes blown fuses or if the ECU just removes power to the trailer)

Not available on 4 cylinders. Option on 6 cylinders for 2016/2017 (tow package). Standard on 6 cylinders for 2018+

Thank you. I just crawled under the truck in a brief stop in the rain. There is a factory wire cable . I tested it with a ice pick style test light for signals and running lights and it is working. I was alone but I know the brake has to be working since it's shared . I could have stuffed a snow brush on the brake but I also know I don't need to . This 2016 sand v-6 auto Sr 5 came upon me suddenly last Friday, and the weather has been just poor. Thanks again . And the PDF is excellent. Where do these come from in color book form ? I will be getting a workshop manual but really want in color diagrams. Most factory diagrams are in black and white and the only aftermarket in color I am aware of are Cylmers.

And that answers another question I have for a woman asking in these forums. She bis interested in towing a trailer , but has the 4 cyl engine, and evidently bought it with out the tow package.

I am not up on what is current. The 2016 I have has factory wiring and the receiver. The harness is factory for sure .

    They are from toyota
(I believe if you have a TIS subscription from Toyota you can download them.)

Use google to search the forum, you will find the 2016 service and wiring diagrams pretty easy.

Here I believe looks like a good link, but google will get you there if these links are dead

Note, I have only seen the 2016 links (which are fine for me at 2017), but don't necessarily include all the new 2018+ cameras and crap

I had to search 'TIS subscription from Toyota' Makes me feel like I am driving a computer. I guess we are. This is a 2016 Sr 5 with 6 bottle caps under the hood. It works for me, but I would prefer an 1946 Dodge Power Wagon. A real truck, and totally brain dead. Thank you for the assistance.

On Edit: Links work, I down loaded both and checked a few files in each pdf folder.

I am not that pc savvy, but try hard. I am new on Win 10 to . Came from XP .

I haven’t checked it, but in older Toyotas, emergency flashers were the brake lights.

Also turn sigs. Same bulbs . In USA wiring the brake and turn signal share the same filaments .

The issues start when you hook up an American wired trailer with out a converter . Screwy things happen on the trailer .

No problem. The image is a google image. I think it is a step bumper with a brush bar added.
