Hey yall. I am currently driving a 2004 prerunner access cab i4 4x2 that I've had since it was new, looking to upgrade to a 2019 double cab v6 4x4.

I found one nearby for about $28,3. That seems like a good deal to me. Its an SR, so I'd probably look to buy some SR5 or TRD rims, which seem to be readily available.

I looked at one site that said invoice is $29,6.

    So questions:

    A. Does this seem like a good deal?

    2. Am I correct in assuming that there will be about $1,500 in fees on top of that price (dealer fee, shipping fee, miscellaneous hidden fee, etc.). Can I expect a dealership to waive any of these fees upon request?

III. One dealer nearby says it has a 2017 SR5 in stock, but it doesn't advertise the price. If I ask them about it, how much discount should I ask for compared to the 2019? Seems like $3k off would be reasonable for a two year old "new" vehicle still on the lot.

Quatro. Is there any upcoming 1.9% APR deal anytime soon?

    E. Is there anything I am missing that could get me a better deal?

    Thanks!

Are you in a hurry? Better deals on the ‘19 will be had after the 2020’s start showing up on the dealer lots. Perhaps late November will result in additional savings as the factory incentives will be in full force (additional $ off and perhaps reduced financing options).

Thanks. I've heard thats when the best deals come out, but at this point I'm thinking I don't want to wait until late November.

Was wondering if anyone knew whether there was a special happening in May, for example.

Dealerships don’t really have “specials” that are actually better deals, they’re fairly constant with the minimum acceptable percentage throughout the year. The only real “extras” come from factory incentives as stated prior. Advertising will make it “appear” like there are deals, however it’s just marketing.

That said, it’s a good deal if you can afford it..! Don’t get too car (truck) happy and over buy. Take your time and do some homework on the differences between model years (features are different between 2017 and 2018/2019, with a significant refresh coming in 2020). Again, it’s your money... spend however you wish of course (just appeares you’re excited now, and that will cost you extra dollars... defeating your threads intentions)... good luck.

What is the MSRP of the truck? I would expect 3k below MSRP at minimum before TTL

I will take a shot at number 2:

    https://www.edmunds.com/car-buying/what-fees-should-you-pay.html

I had a version of the charts for my state on my phone. Compared the fees with the presented final bill to make sure the dealer was being honest. I suggest you do the same.

the best deals are usually made in the last few hours of the last day of the month.
black fridays and end of dec. are usually the best time to go. that is if you can wait.
my old truck was failing so i didnt have that option.

This, and end of the quarter is even better... so end of June and that's also getting close to the 2020 release.

    Just a driver mod.
If you are to buy this month, wait until the end of the month when the salesman needs the sale the most. Show interest but don't be afraid to walk out. They'll call you again if they can make a favorable deal for you.

Very strange the dealer still has a 'NEW' 17 on the lot. If it were me and I actually liked the truck I'd go for a minimum of 6k off the sticker. That's $3000 for each model year it's behind. If they won't do that deal, walk away and wait for the end of the quarter and deal on a new 2019. Make sure they have your phone number as it's more likely than not they would be calling you for more negotiations.

    This right here.

I had the opportunity to rent an '18 Off Road for a week and a half. Drove it to work. Drove it to Galveston for an extended weekend. Just Drove it.

It convinced me and more importantly, it convinced my wife that it was time to get a new truck.

Shop on the last weekend of the month. The sales folks make the best deals then because they are trying to hit the magic number of vehicles rolled for the month to make their bonus. They might not make any money on your deal, but if it puts them at the number they need, it can retroactively pay them more on all the ones they sold earlier in the month. When I was selling cars years ago 10 was the magic number. It usually resulted in me earning an extra $3-5k for the month even if I didn’t make much on the 10th deal.
