good points- its also good to have them secured just in case you are in a rollover or other accident and have to put your own fire out. Plus you don’t want them flying around in the cab or out of it during an accident...

The extinguisher seems reasonably tight in the cup holder. An accident severe enough to launch the thing out of the bottom pocket past the arm rest might cause you bigger problems. I am sure there would be a way to make it an actual mount if you were willing to attach a strap to the plastic part of the door or something.

It’s a Garrison 2Lb ABC - Model SRFE 2M. I think I bought it a Home Depot. Might be a Canada only model, but Kidde (same company as Garrison) likely has a USA equivalent. It’s around 3” in diameter and about 13” tall. It sits flat on the bottom of the pocket and is not stretching the plastic of the door. It also fits under the armrest bulge.

I looked at the plastic mount it came with and you actually could screw it or glue it to your door if you wanted to.

It is a small extinguisher, but you can easily carry one in each door during fire season. Two small extinguishers is better than one large one. It gives you a back up if one extinguisher is faulty, and also you might need to fight more than one fire.

Ideally you wouldn’t put both in one door. It’s a little goofy doing that, but they will fit.

It sounds great, but I just can't afford to use up two whole cup holders for something other than beverages. How will we have enough drinks for all? If we can't all be two-fisting it with 4 cup holders to spare, I get nervous...

You really don't want a pressure vessel stored inside your door like this. If you get tagged in the door hard enough it could pop and make for a nice mess of both blood and abc powder. There's a reason why DOT and the USCG require extinguishers to be mounted in approved brackets.

I'm in the let it burn camp. If my truck catches fire I don't want it back.

I was just wondering this, what if I got sideswipped and this is right there. Great idea for some perhaps....I'm sure those running with scissors don't get hurt often either...sorry mom.

Sorry if I’m missing something but what does the mount consist of- insert in door pocket? If so any pics of it by itself and how does it secure in pocket or just friction fit. Or are you just promoting that the extinguisher by itself is a good fit in the pocket? Sorry a little slow today

I’m joking about the mount, not about having a fire extinguisher in your truck.

    Holy smokes.

Serously, you are on fire Stocklocker! And if you have to explain things to a tedium, it really pours cold water on your heart warming efforts. Thank you for rescuing me.

I like the fact this thread has brought up the question of whether extinguishers are safe in the cabin at all. I honestly hadn’t fully considered that, and there is a lot of information out there regarding that question. So far, most would say yes.

Maybe TW will suss out the ultimate location?

    Wow I need coffee- bad!!!
I agree though. Something so simple and relatively cheap could possible prevent something catastrophic. Just make sure you all flip those things upside down 1x a month and give the bottom a couple firm hits. Frees up the powder that cakes up because it is so fine. Good to do before using it too but that moment could be a stressful situation and that would be easily overlooked.

I am going to respectfully argue and say the best spot is mounted under the driver seat. In case of a real emergency, at least on the roadway, less so camping, all I have to do is flick the clasp under the seat and I immediately have access. If these were in the back seat I would have to physically get out of the truck then open another door before I have any access.

My employer owns and maintains a fleet of over 200 vehicles and every one of them had an extinguisher (or 2) somewhere in the cabin depending on the vehicle. we've had or fair share of accidents and never a mishap with the extinguisher. If secure or properly mounted I’d say it’s a great idea to have one. I accidentally started a small grass fire at work and I’m glad I had the extinguisher to put it out.

That spot would annoy the hell out of me. Are you able to use that mount on the back side of the drivers seat?

Yes you can. And it doesnt bother me one bit. I'm still able to adjust the seat at will and its perfectly tucked under the natural seating position. Picture makes it look awkward.

You're not from a state that has to worry about fire season. California's is right around the corner.

I'm totally for the fire extinguisher, good to remind everyone, but it has to be really secure in the cab, locked down. In a roll over shit starts flying and you don't want it hitting you or your passengers.
